200mm bench grinder - what spec/make
Hi Chaps,
I need to replace my knackered Chinese bench grinder and at the same time have got a larger lathe that uses 20mm square tooling so it seems sensible
to splash out on a better model to grind this tooling.
What spec should I be looking at? I guess no universal motors but what wattage of induction motor is adequate? Although 20mm square HSS will sap some
power its only for short periods to allow cooling down. I also have a selection of solid carbide tooling which I have never sharpened before is this
harder on the grinder motor?
Another concern is the bearings which foobarred very quickly on the cheapo grinder - are these replaceable on better models and so which ones.
Any recommendations based on experience would be much appreciated.
Cheers!

You'd be surprised how quickly the sales people at B&Q try and assist you after ignoring you for the past 15 minutes when you try and start a

Not an expert by any means but buy one with a lamp fitted we have a couple of Clarke things at work and a large wet stone for the chisels but would
look at Axminster next time. Green grit wheel for lathe tools

I have a record power bench grinder and it's very good. It's probably 7 or 8 years old now and still going strong.
