Will It Need IVA?
Many years ago (as in lots of years) my kit car was stolen and I recovered it.
Since then its not been on the road or even registered as off the road.
So will need to apply for a new v5c, I can prove it was once on the road and when it was first registered, but with it not being used etc for such a
long time will I get informed it needs an iva to get a new v5c?
If so thats the end of the car as the design will never pass it.
Cheers
(last time it was on the road was around 2005)

If you know the reg and chassis number its a simple case of applying for a new v5, ticking the lost box...

I'd agree. Just apply for a replacement v5... Unless it was written-off as a result of the theft, in which case it may be more complicated.

The vin plate got removed when it was stolen/recovered.
Makes it more difficult unless i can find old v5c/mot.
Never easy.

You don't need the VIN number, just the Reg number and chassis number. Download a V62 from
HERE send it off and see what happens

Sorry thought the VIN & Chassis same number?
Either way both are missing.
I "might" of found a number that could be either one, so how do I check that?
(ripping house/shed apart looking for docs etc)

Where is the number located, if it's on the chassis try it. The worst that can happen is that they say no!
If you have the reg number, do a check on the web site. https://www.vehicleenquiry.service.gov.uk/

Got an old MOT certificate? Doesn't that have a vin number on it?
Wonder if a friendly garage can look this up on their pooter?

Looking for any paper work at all on it.
Between moving house and it being stolen/recovered things have been moved around alot. Could take some time.
Found a piece of paper with a VIN number but not sure if its for this car.
On DVLA the make dosnt come up so cant use that.
Unless I find more paper for it its a case of ringing DVLA and hope they dont want it in for an IVA for new reg and vin.
If I can prove its this VIN then I can get a plate made up(?) and just rivet that on.
Now I have found an old v5/2 new keepers supplement with the make, reg and DofR, it also has a Document Ref No, but that dosnt work since the DVLA
dosnt accept the make/model.
The joys of cars (paper work) going missing.

when was the car first used?
if its a kit, they didn't have to have a chassis/vin until sept 2001.
from mot testers manual, section 6.3
quote: A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN or chassis number) is required on:
kit cars and amateur built vehicles first used on or after 1 September 2001
all other vehicles first used on or after 1 August 1980.
also you say you may have found the number? is it 17 digits long? with characters and numbers?

if you enter the plate into
http://www.autotrader.co.uk/vehiclecheck
it <should> give the make (tested it for my car, where eurocarparts just listed the make as n/a)

you may be able to decode the vin you have, see
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_identification_number
edit, and as its pre 1980, it <shouldn't> need a vin, but the paperwork may not allow it...

for my car I get the make, but the model on the v5 is blank, and hence comes up unknown,
maybe try entering just a blank for the make on the dvla check.

When I needed to apply for a V5 and only had the VRM, I used a HPI check. It was back in the days of paying £12 to do the HPI check so there are many
cheaper ways now. Anyhoo, the HPI check gave me the VIN number to check.......

Try the make and model as one word on the dvla vehicle enquiry site - i need to enter 'sylva striker mk11' to get a result, just sylva
brings up vehicle not found.

Try this alternative registration checking site, it just needs reg number and it will return make and model which you can use in dvla site enquiry.

Thanks to all so far, found it on the dvla!
Now, to find the VIN/Chassis Number, so you reckon a HPI check will show that?
Dont mind dropping the price of a set of brake pads if it makes my life easier with the DVLA!
And once thats done, I wont need IVA and can get it sorned? (no engine means no chance of it getting an MOT haha (and if you happen to have an
a-series engine 1275cc with box etc PM me thanks)
