Rear Lights - Options
Hi
So since I got it, my MK has had oval rear lights. I like them - they're a bit different to the norm, but I think they suit.
The problem is, the brake light runs too hot and basically I'm currently on my 3rd set of housings caused by having the brake light on too long,
and the unit melting. They also tend to let water in, but that's not insurmountable.
So, I've been looking at other potential options.
One option is to keep the look, but change the bulbs. I know you can get replacement LED stop/tail lights, but my understanding is that these
aren't great - there's youtube videos suggesting the difference between tail and stop brightness is small, though this may just be Chinese
imports - if anyone has any experience with these (bay15d but LED stop/tail) I'd appreciate it.
The other option I'm looking at involves changing the look. Using for example the various
Ring Automotive units, I can go more
traditional separate stop/tail and indicator, or a clear stop/tail/turn on either side, with either centred or wide fitment.
The separates are more common and traditional, but I can't decide whether the all-in-ones work or not, so after opinions.
I think I'd rather keep the ovals, if LED bulbs might fix them, so any views on replacement LED bulbs would be good, but failing that general
thoughts on the other options?
Cheers

I like two
You'd probably get away with the same hole too
LEDs would be worth a try unless you really want a change of look?

Wonder how easy it would be to get them to sit nicely on the shaped rear arch though?

also in my opinion, "Colours"
why don't you try to use the "land rover defender rear stop and indicator"?
are smaller and probably looks better

Rectangular led ones on Steves car are from Bolt on bits iirc.

Lights are irrelevant when the rear end is spoilt by that god awful maxpower font on the plate.

Indeed - anything other than the standard font is.

Thanks That was the plate the car came with, was removed many years ago, it was the only picture I had handy of the back of the car and
couldn't be arsed going in the garage to get a new one just for this exercise
I agree though, it looked w@nk!

Back to the point, looks like 4 lights is the order of the day. Cheers all.
I do like those R8 ones too, though from what I can see they're Oz only, and so very unlikely to be e marked (as we're talking about
legal rear ends )

Roadvision will happily ship to the UK. Didn't think E-mark was required for rear lights, but not an expert in that area (life's too
short). Am quite happy with mine, even though I had to modify the housing somewhat to fit on the arch.

So I decided the 95mm Land Rover lights were a little too big, and I didn't really care for the look of the Landy 75mm domed lights. Popped
into Bolt on Bits last week and they had some 75mm Britax LED units that weren't domed like the Landy ones. Not flush mount so had to dremel my
mounting holes out a lot, but I think they look pretty good: -
New LED Lights
Only odd thing now is I now have LED all round to got an LED flasher unit - no reassuring relay click anymore

Isn't the relay click required for the IVA. shouldn't there be a audioable sound on indicators?
I have also chnaged lights and dash set-up. In what situation should you get the vehicle re-IVA'ed... or wouldn't you need to?

For IVA indicators have to have either a visible OR audible warning (unless the actual front indicators are visible from the drivers seat).
A reIVA would only be required if you made major changes to the chassis.
