Yokohama AO48r
I have just been told that the AO48r are no longer road legal. They are now marked for composition use only. Is this correct, are the Toyo r888s next
on the list for composition use only

Even if new ones are, it wont be retrospectively applied to old ones.
Didnt think r888s are being made anymore, after being replaced by the r888r, thar was produced to suit modern eu requirements.
Also, theres been comp only a048s available for some time, they produce them alog side the road legal ones.

Yes, the 048 being produced now is not E marked as it won't met the lowest labeling requirements. Hence the track use only markings.
R888s aren't being phased out but the ones that are still available are E marked. It's been replaced by the R888R which meets the labeling
requirements and is E marked for road use. Used the new ones for just over a year/8000miles and in my opinion, it's a better tyre all round.
Only negative is it takes marginally longer to get up to temp.

I'd not seen those before. What are they like in the wet?

About on par with r888s etc , so better than you would expect from this type of tyre, and I think they are a bit softer than the r888,s, and a fair
bit cheaper.

Cheers Paul. I've found the R888R to be significantly better than the old ones in the wet. Thats on the road rather than ultimate track grip but
definitely a lot less likely to throw you in the ditch/armco even in torrential rain. Given I tour on them thats important as is wear (need to last
3000miles min) so softer might not be good either.
