first kit car
Hello I'm mike from the north east (Skelton-in Cleveland)
I'm potentially in the market for my first kit car. From my research online I think a bike powered car would be best for me, however that
doesn't mean I will turn down a respectfully powered car engined car. I've had no real experience of either form of car, but the concept
of the 10k+ rev limiter and sequential box is very appealing. The car is being bought as a toy, sunny Sunday mornings over the North Yorkshire moors
and trackdays. I'm coming from a jap car background I've owned a supra and a rx7. Ive always fancied a kit car but until recently
didn't feel I was in the the position to have one.
Budget is around 7k however that isn't a strict budget and can go higher for the right car
I'm looking for something road legal and ready to drive, preferably full cage but not a deal breaker. I wouldn't be able to purchase the
car for a couple of weeks as i'm currently recovering from a mountain biking accident that ended in quite a large hole in my knee a few weeks
back and i'm currently recovering from surgery.
Cheers
Mike
I tried posting in the new members section but it wouldn't let me? not sure what i'm doing wrong i dont like to be the type of forum user

Welcome.
Just a couple of pointer, first one when looking at the car is to check the log book and that it is properly registered. The make and model should
accurately describe the car so look out for still being registered as the donor, being registered as a kit that it is not (mk as a dutton etc.). Do
test drive it to see if the bike thing is really for you.
£7k is ok but is probably the starting point for a decent bike kit, may be an older fire blade, zx9 or possibly R1.
I would not restrict myself to sevens, also look at Fury and Phoenix cars.
Look in the usual places, classifieds on here, pistonheads, eBay and owners forums.
Personally I would be looking for an r1 striker but that is personal preference and may need quite a wait for one to come up.
Good luck searching.
How about this, cost leaves a bit left over to add the full cage - MK IndyBlade, excellent spec, fireblade engine,
trackday

cheers for that i'll make sure my first job is to check the log books,
£7000 is not my maximum budget could go up a fair bit if needed not sure where to budget really it seems quite a ranged market in terms of prices and
i'm not overly clue'd up on what brand is best ect so dont really want to say i can afford £15k and then people just try rip me off.
That mk is on my watch list on ebay, and i would of definitely been to view it by now if my leg was okay, and it wasnt pretty much as far away from me
as i can the other one on ebay that tickles my fancy is this
Mk Indy Zetec Blacktop
not sure about the engine choice, if i was to hate it, is it a huge job to swap from a car engine to a bike engine?

Hi,
I was at Croft at the weekend with Matty and co when you were talking about these.
Feel free to come and have a good look at mine and we'll have a blast out.
I'm away at work until the end of September unfortunately, but after that, I'm free!
Don't be put off by the older bike engines.
Mine has a 919cc blade engine, with 'only' 130bhp.
On track days there are very very few cars that are faster over a lap.
I've been on track with hayabusa powered cars, 200bhp+ CECs and I've been able to lap faster than them. This comes down to the driver I
guess!
They're a great reliable engine and perfect to get the feel of a kit car.
I've had mine over 4 yrs now and expected to get bored of it and buy something fast a long time ago, however I still love it. It's
improved my driving a hell of a lot too which makes it a faster car than higher powered ones. They're very different to drive compared to a fast
tin top.

Yer my mates was a bargain!
I don't know if you know him, but Sam Higgins bought it!
If you haven't bought one by the time I get back home I'll certainly take you out.
Feel free to make me an offer on mine.... it's not for sale but for the right price I may be tempted...
