Racetech fuel sender wanted
Seems a decade of sitting has caused the fuel sender to rust/rot/seize and snap
I ordered a new sender from Demon Tweeks and it has arrived, but it appears that Racetech changed the design from 10ohms empty to 360 ohms full to a
more international 10 ohms empty to 180 ohms full in about 2010
Unfortunately it seems that not everyone has updated their website pics to reflect the changes in design, so got caught out
(as none of the sites that showed the sender actually gave useful specs - so left me with relying on the images)
I don't suppose anyone has the older type sender laying about?
or know of a source with some in stock?
or a newer than 2010 gauge they don't need?
The older type sender looked like this...

Hi
Have you tried phoning Racetech to ask (any contact numbers in/on the packaging?) or phoning Raceparts to ask, quoting the part number you have been
sent not being what you expected:
https://race.parts/Catalogue/Gauges/Gauge-Accessories/Electrical-Gauge-Senders
Looks like two different fuel senders are now offered:
RTECF5H 5 Hole Flange Fuel Sender
RTECF6H 6 Hole Fuel Sender
Wonder if the other one is the one you want, or the spec has changed for the same part number, or the part is now no longer available?
Looking at the Caerbont (who make Smiths instruments) website looks like you cannot buy the resistance range you seek from them either:
https://www.caigauge.com/documents/pdfs/pil004a-381.pdf
but do carefully check: https://www.smiths-instruments.co.uk/sender-units/fuel-tank-senders (would this do:
https://www.merlinmotorsport.co.uk/p/smiths-top-mount-fuel-level-sensor-tb9011-cb-fs-top ?)
2CV sender? https://www.thepembleton.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=293
Hopefully someone on here will come up with a tweak with a soldering iron and a resister to get you to 360 Ohms, or a way to convert the output to
suit the instrument.
Cheers
Mike

I have messaged Racetech from their website (couldn't see a number for them)
RTECF5H 5 Hole Flange Fuel Sender is the one I bought
the original one that came off is the 5 hole type
The difference between RTECF5H and RTECF6H is literally just the hole count of the flange as far as I have gathered, everything else is the same
Just seems a bit odd that Demon Tweeks are using a photo that is pre 2010 for that item if it has been dropped (seems a bit bait n switch)
I have spoken to a few departments there, but no one could really clarify (not even to confirm the item they sent is not the item they show)
I have found references elsewhere online that they changed sender, and it required the new style (and ohms range) gauge... in about 2010
Rang/messaged the few shops that show that same image of the sender I want, but not heard anything in reply/no call backs yet
The likely hood of someone having such old stock is pretty remote I guess
I am thinking it may be easier and less expensive to get a more modern dip tube type and gauge that is suited to it...but at the cost of gauge not
matching the others, which I am not sure if that would annoy me or not...

Just had a reply from Demon Tweeks
"Unfortunately the fuel sender he needs is a 250489 which we no longer supply. They were made by a Spanish company Maxima Technologies whom we
no longer deal with. His options are to source an identical unit (maybe from Maxima) Or buy a new gauge to match the new sender."
been on the Maxima Technologies website, doesn't look like there are any UK dealers
Have messaged one in France to see if a new sender can be posted (as it looks like it is still an item they do)
Fingers crossed
Failing that I guess modern dip tube and gauge and live with it not matching
Will keep this post up, just in case someone has a sender in a dusty box (or someone needs an older version of the gauge to suit their old sender)

Does the new sender that you have will fit the tank? If so, you could fit a post 2011 Racetech gauge that matches the resistance range of the new
sender, hopefully secondhand or an unpalatable high cost option. Or switch to a higher volume gauge manufacturer and use one of their senders for a
popular model.
Cheers

It would fit, but I would likely have had to cut down the long rod and maybe cut and bend the arm (basing this on the old one that came out)
But then I would be stuck with it
Have boxed it up and sent it back before I do something with it that makes it impossible to return
Decision made
Have ordered a 0-190 ohm dip tube sender (which seems like a "euro std" now)
when it arrives I will see how "out" the old gauge is with the dip sender (it maybe that it will show half full when topped up as it will
only be half resistance?, but as it gets closer to empty it should reflect the true fuel level? ....maybe?)
It is more important to see when it is about to run dry, as my wallet will let me know when it is brimmed
If that is a fail - I will look into getting a close match to the old gauge that is 'happy' with a euro std 0-190 ohm reading
Though it kind of looks like the "new" Racetech might be close enough (specs on the sender were 10-180ohm)
Dip tube sender was more locost (£19)
"new" racetech gauge seems to be about £45 - £50
the sender I just sent back was 40 odd squid, not stainless steel (the dip tube one I just bought is) and likely to rot out if left again
We will have to wait and see -
If anyone needs a racetech fuel gauge that it looks like it is impossibru to get a sender for...I'm your man
(though the french connection may come through, or it may be "usable" with the wrong sender and some resistors or something)

I had the same issue with their oil pressure gauge, where I couldn’t get hold of their old style sensor or find out it’s resistance. Ended up forking
out for a new gauge with matching sensor.

It sucks
I get that stuff changes..and it sounds like it is "changes in supplier" for the fuel senders case and it is possibly not that often it
happens
(and they maybe don't tell the resellers)
Might be the case for the oil pressure
But still frustrating
But if the resellers even gave specs it would give a clue that s simple sensor change is going to cost at least double what you expected - or not work
it would be less frustrating, glad I didn't cut the sensor to fit - only to find out
maybe I didn't google hard enough and put too much trust that a racetech sensor would work with a racetech gauge....lesson learned
I have messaged Demon tweeks suggesting they update the photo on the fuel sender on their website and ebay selling page
(after 10 years of it being obsolete they are either lazy or hoping that people in a similar situation just shrug their shoulders and buy a new gauge
to get round the problem)
maybe it is just me...
Should measure all the sensors and make notes I guess

If you like I can take a pic of the different age gauges next to each other in my dash, to get an idea of what they look like. The difference does
annoy me, but not enough to buy two new gauges and their sensors, yet!

I wonder if the Maxima Technologies website will show or list the sensor you need (like it does the fuel level sender)
They have a couple of PDF lists
My sender (250489) is on this list
https://ast.es/wp-content/uploads/2017/01/007_AST_Catalogo.pdf
Unfortunately it looks like Maxima will not deal with general public - and the closest reseller/dealer is in France
I have emailed them to see if they would be willing to sell me the sender, not heard back yet
if you find your sensor in their catalog I will try and add it to the order (assuming I hear back from them)

Whilst i can't help with the old style fuel sender, i can with the old style oil pressure as i ran into the same issue a few years ago.
For the old racetech oil pressure gauge, after much digging/cross referencing, it's- Intermotor 53800 and is 100% correct

Extra weirdness
I got a modern stainless dip tube type sender
Hooked it up - and the gauge is seemingly working backwards
I have double checked the sellers description and it says 0 - 180ohms
Have I assumed that 0 should be when float is at bottom (eg empty tank)?
My old sender used to be 10ish ohms when empty, and rise to 300 odd ohms when full (at least as far as I remember)
maybe it was flipped? - the arm snapped off in removing from tank so I could be mistaken as to which direction it was facing
I will take the new sender out tomorrow and put a meter across it to check resistance at max and min and check I am not going mad before buying
another gauge
(struggling to find a 0-180 gauge with red needle and black face that will kind of match the racetech ones ...with fast shipping)
No way would I attempt to mount the flange under the tank so if it is reversed I am not sure what to do
(break out an arduino and see if I can do something....seems over the top, but better than broom handle in tank)

If your gauge is using a bimetallic strip then you would have the lower resistance at full tank, and the higher resistance at full tank for a moving
coil/stepper motor gauge.

Not sure why but my reply didn't work, just blankness...
The dip sender gives zero ohms when empty, and 180 ohms when full
I have tested this is the case with a meter - and it agrees with the spec sheet
I guess the original sender worked the other way (zero ohms when full and 360 ohms when empty)
Merlin motorsport's site has some specs for the Racetech fuel senders - stating...
"Racetech universal fuel level sender. Can be side or top mounted in the fuel tank. 5 hole fitment with 51mm (2 Inch) P.C.D.
Sender reads Zero Ohms at empty and 183 Ohms at full. "
so looking at this I would assume the new gauge should work...
(but then it is trivial to swap wires on the new racetech float senders to reverse the direction- and on the dip tube it is fixed and no way of
reversing)
does anyone have a new (post 2010) racetech gauge willing to ground the sender wire to see if goes to empty or full?
I guess I need one that definitely goes to empty

I can't see any definate specs for your original sender, they are still listed on burtons website - but as no longer available.
I did spot the following link which is still advertising the older gauge and sensors to match - it may be worth contacting them in case they still
have old stock senders.

Also try this link, they also seem to have stock!

They do have the sender in stock
But I have decided to keep the stainless dip tube sender, and bought the newer Racetech gauge (that should work with the 0-180 sender I have -
according to raceline)
Will be neater and less hassle
Will find out Saturday..assuming I get the dash and wiring loom back in the car by then
So if anyone needs an older Racetech 360 ohm empty - 10 ohm full gauge ..shout me
No sender though, but it appears there is at least one available in the UK

Does anyone know the resistance range of the sender for the old style Racetech water temperature gauge? Or even a part number?
I wish I’d not tried to stick with matching the existing gauges and just gradually swapped over to something else!
