Posting large/heavy items?

I am going to put some bits on ebay and I know they'll get more bids if they can be posted rather than collection only, but I'm sure they'd be over the royal mail standard parcels limit (20kg). how do people send large/heavy items?

initially thinking about a set of wheels + tyres, but i have some seats and interior bits as well I might put on ebay. i've seen other people offering postage on sets of wheels at around £20 - what courier/service do they use?!
anyone done this?

thanks,

Ned.

When ChrisW bought my old engine we used www.moveyourpallet.com
seemed to do the trick.

Parcel Force do it for up to 30kg for just over £20 and collect it from your door.

I've found UPS to be pretty good. I've sent a pair of Escort Billy struts to the US (50kg) and a full set of RS alloys to New Zealand.

UPS do up to 50kg. Sold an axle and the buyer arranged collection but they insisted it had to have no oil in it.Collected OK but i don,t know about delivery.

i think i'd have to take the parcel to a depot as no one is at home to wait around for a courier to turn up.

I have used postvan.com a few times and they have been very good. No need to wait in for them - I have always just left things outside and told them where to find them.
