HELP! Seized Caliper
Has anybody got a spare offside M16 Caliper (Mk 3,4,5 Cortina) that they would like to sell to a poor unfortunate student who has a seized piston?
I think my nearside is fine but will but a pair if on offer.
Need to get sorted asap, only thing left to do is sort out my brakes and the fact that the car makes a dive for the verge when i brake!

Can you not get the old one out and re-condition it.
Sometimes its only the slightest bit of water thats got down the side of dust/weather seal.
If it is you can clean the piston off with a bit of metal polish and then renew the seal, jobs a good'en!

that was plan A but have discovered the face of the piston has been damaged so feel it would be best to get another one and recon that if needed.

The face where it comes into contact with the back of the pad, or the polished sides of the cylinder?
If its the face that contacts the pad they never look that clever and are usually a tad rusty anyway.

its partly the face that meets the pad and partlt the outside of the piston. Basically the corner of the piston, if that makes sense.
I have been quoted £38 each exchange for new calipers (standard M16) does this seem good?

Sounds reasonable, although you'll need a pair to be sensible, as the recon will be working noticably better than the original and cause the car
to pull the otherway when braking!

Sounds a pretty good price to me, for the sierra its £14 for an overhaul kit I seem to remeber.
Does the damage go back past the grove in the Piston? (The groove the weather seal fits in)
Provided any major rust/damage is on the outside (pad side) of that then it should be fine.
