How can you check a engine is not nicked

How can you check a engine is not nicked?

If you buy one and it turns out it is are you in the sh*t or do you just loose the engine?

If the engine no. is still on it, thats a good sign, don't know wether you can check it with the DVLA or not (someone will)

Cheers

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

I've bought and repaired a few write offs. I used to run them for years after I'd done them and when you put them back on the road nowadays you get a visit from the police asking you whether you knew the vehicle had been an insurance write off. They can inspect the vehicle and tell you if the engine is stolen so there must be a register for them somewhere.

yours, Pete.

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
