Aluminium magnet
Where can get an aluminium magnet to collect all the swarf in awkward places inside the engine bay?
Thanks,
Pat...
No trees were killed in the sending of this message.
However a large number of electrons were terribly inconvenienced.

SERIOUS ANSWER:
You can't attract or repel aluminium using conventional magnets.
You can repel Aluminium using electro-magnets but not attract AFAIK

you can get them off the shelf in Halfords, next to the glass hammer and the sky hooks!
Be careful if you ask the assistant though, as he is likely to give you the long stand.
If you can't get one at Halfords, try Machine Mart, near the metric screwdrivers.

<physics hat on>
Aluminium is actually very weakly attracted to magnets and is a paramagnetic material. Though the force is about 1 million times smaller than with a
conventional magnetic materials. Paramagnetic materials magnetism actually increases the colder you get it
Copper is in the same category of materials. <physics hat off>
We all know about being able to induce magnetic fields in aluminium, its how the old electric meters with the spinning discs worked.
You can also use a rapidly changing magnetic field to heat aluminium.

PS I suggest a hoover

I have some very strong molybdenum (spelling from memory so don't quote me)magnets that stick to steel like doo doo to a blanket but if you
slide it down aluminium sheet at an angle it does slow down, so magnetic enough to just notice it.
But clearing the swarf here is only really possible manually.

Use your local friendly hospital's MRI scanner, they're pretty powerful.
Or train a ferret

attacking other parts of the car if left un attended, this could also happen with the ali worms, once they have eaten all the little ali bits. also
for those hard to see places, where it's difficult to get a torch in, glow worms are ideal, it may be worth buying a selection pack of worms for
this and every future build.
Chris
Ah you mean tin worms. You get them in cans to open when you get home. They sell them in Machine Mart next to the large cans of Whoopass.

Oh come on now you know you are being silly. Ferrets' paws are too little to reach the buttons on an MRI scanner, let alone filling in the
application form for medical school for the training.
I suggest a badger.

Nope, it's on the shelf next to the brass magnets.
To the right of the spirit level bubbles If you get to the left handed hammers, you've gone too far.

Be careful I got the imperial left hand thread screwdrivers, an easy mistake to make. I did get another bag of sparks for the grinder and a can of
smoke to recharge the wiring loom when some leaked out the other day
On a more serious note be careful of blowing it out, as swarf in the eye isn't much fun. Vacuum is best.

What about headlamp fluid for topping up the head lights.
Did you know that you can buy standard or halogen and a recent development of Xeon fluid with the special blue tinge.

I went there a while back for a bucket of sparks for the angry grinder. They were out of stock but i did walk away with a nice set of metric
adjustable wrenches.
