Sierra 2.0l DOHC and MT75

Hi,
I am looking at a possible doner Sierra (2.0l DOHC with rear disk brakes and a MT75 gearbox).
When I originally spoke to GTS I think Darren said he thought the MT75 gearbox would fit but he hadn't tried one in a Panther.
What do you guys think about the gearbox and will the rear disks be OK?
I may not eventually go down the DOHC route but for the moment it looks like a good budget option.
Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks,
David

Use a type 9 if you can, they will definately fit.

I can say my type 9 is quite tight in my tunnel, and the MT75 box is wider, so may not fit. But I can't back that up at all.

If you want old 8v technology go for the pinto as well, easier to tune than the DOHC, and lighter *cough* too.

Edit: sorry forgot the bit about discs. Yes rear discs are fine, you will just need the caliper moutning plates to fit on the axle, available form GTS

I have a Mt75 box in a Home made Panther chasis. ie made to his drawing pack.

It wont fit easily. Ive modified mine. You wont get the motor and box far enough back.

The box does have its good points but if doing again I would use a type 9, tried and tested.

If on a budget use the 1800 cvh/ type 9. It doesnt get any cheaper than that.

Hi,
So the MT75 is looking like a bad idea.
What about the EFI on the engine, I expect this would be a problem also?
Can I get hold of replacement carb for a 2.0l DOHC engine from somewhere?
Also does anyone know if a 1992 Sierra Sapphire 1.6 will have rear disk brakes?
Thanks,
David

I have got a DOHC and MT75 nicely fitted in a GTS W7DE kit, there are some pics in my archive which give you an idea of the extra space the W7DE kit gives. I doubt very much that you can fit one in a Panther kit without mods, as corroborated by big_wasa.

Although the donor car might be cheaper, you should also probably factor in the cost of the DOHC manifold (Relatively non-standard) and also a sump chop, inlet chop and also one-off engine mounts as very few kit car manufacturers entertain the DOHC engine. But, if you do decide to stick with it, it can give you upto 150bhp easily and loads of torque

Where there is a will there is away

One of the good points I was on about is the easy way to move the gear stick.

You won't find rear discs on a 1.6 Sierra, only on the Cossies, XR4x4's and some 2 litre DOHC's.
It was an optional extra for quite a while but very few people bothered.
