Filter foam
Can anyone suggest a cheap or free source of foam that I can use to make a filter? I just need a few square inches.
After splitting my bike carbs there are a few orifices where I'd like to stop muck getting in - no great air flow required, but it must be
petrol & oil proof, and easy-clean would be a bonus.
I thought of the filter foam you find in vacuum cleaners, but I doubt whether that's oil/petrol resistant.
A source that doesn't involve posting would also be useful...

ive previously brought a flat sheet of 'Pipercross' filter foam which i used making my air box, still got some small offcuts, can post or

If it would be of any use, I have some seriously fine stainless filter mesh you could have.

try your local motorbike shop, got a 18x12 sheet for a fiver

I found some in a local pet shop in the fishtank and pond section .They sell sheets and round cut out sections of various grades .It seems to be
polyurethane type as used in air filters. The problem was they didnt have any big enough to make a full air filter for my throttle bodys.

pond filter stuff rather than fish tank is better. 18x12 sheet = £2.50. Choice of three grades of coarseness, fine might be best if my Honda bike is
anything to go by. Fine metal mesh underneath would be good idea as stuff designed to be used underwater is unlikely to be fireproof.
