Cheapest bec build cost - track day only
Ok, here's one for your bec peeps.
I'm toying with the idea of building a track bec (though I want SVA for my own peace of mind).
Homemade chassis/wishbones/bodywork etc etc - apart from nosecone.
Steel wheels
Probably IRS as I have 3.62 diff lying around.
For engine, I'm thinking ZZR1100 (as cheapish though would prob get complete bike for obvious reasons, flog what's left).
What's gonna be the cheapest I can do it for?
More of a thought experiment for the moment, so no need to get too carried away

A salvage ZZR1100 is going to cost best part of £1000 so you don't know what it's going to end up at till you sell off your spare bits but
I would still guess it's going to be around £3000.
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Why would you want to SVA a track only car? Build it properly and save another £150.
SVA will not test your welding and if it looks crap, you wont need someone else telling you, you'll know yourself.
But elsewise, I think you could do it for £2000, is you pick up bargain bits

Knowing that a friend of mine recently bought a 919 blade (whole bike) for £600 I'd aim for one of those - parts are then available off the
shelf and therefore cheaper.

cheap BEC
There is an R1Turboed engined MK for sale on Racecars Direct priced at £40000 but will accept £3500.Engine is FI ,done 300 miles and has newly been
built.John Mcintosh is the owner and I have seen photographs of the car.Looks good and he reckons its faster than the Busa cars he has raced
against.Id like to see anybody build that for the amounts people are saying theirs have cost.He spent £9K on it,I believe him.I'm not related in
any way or connected to him just share the same enthusiasm for self built cars.swalf3

I bought a part built, sold the engine, used the cash to pay for blade engine and the extras to make it work.
There are few extras you need to take into account - whislt you MIGHT be able to get a zzr1100 engine for £300, you;d be lukcy for it to include
carbs, airbox, starter motor, loom and ECU. Also some cheap engine arrive with casings missing... one to watch for from sneeky breakers - these all
add to the cost considerabley.
If you get the part built at the right price then I think you could build one for £1750, but it aint gonna be a minter.
One thing to consider which worx helped me to understand is:
going a well known engine route (blade/r1) it will make it worth more if you ever come to sell it and I have also found out since listening to his
point - it means that second hand parts are floating round - 2nd hand exhaust etc. which is helping me keep the costs down.
all the best!

Is that a challenge?
<------ cost me £3,000 (including SVA £210/RFL £200 and Ins £238, so £2,300) and that included a few purchasing cock-ups along the way.

Long story short.
Geezer offers fully built fireblade engined cars for £4,500.
Takes lots of deposits from lots of excited people.
Disappears.
That's about it really.
I bumped into him a couple of years back at a few hillclimbs, but he's a big guy...
