Funny - it's me who usually starts these threads at the moment!

I can only offer a caution - don't underestimate the other jobs that may be required to fit bike carbs:

1. Manifold (bought or made).
2. Changes to the coolant system (due to the connection on the existing manifold)
3. Fuel system changes (electric fuel pump, maybe a regulator depending on pump type, or a reg with the mechanical pump)
4. New throttle & choke linkage.
5. New filter.
6. Maybe an oil catch tank.
7. Maybe changes to the ignition system, as it's harder to get a good vacuum off a 4-branch inlet manifold.

Not trying to put you off - it's just that I'm in the middle of this at the moment, and the list of jobs to do just keeps growing! It should be worth it in the end though (I hope!).

cheers,
David

On a 1300 I think any bike carbs would be too big causing poor slow speed running, you'd need to be in the 30mm choke range to get reasonable gas speeds. In my opinion you'd be better with a 28/36 or similar twin downdraught weber, cheaper, easier to fit, more than likely better results.

Downside is it doesn't look as good.

Only my opinion I'm sure someone will have a bike carb config working well.

Pete.

Bike Carbs

You should be OK with bike carbs you can fit slightly larger than webers because of the constant velocity design ,( the carbs only open in proportion to the vacuum from the inlet tract).

So you get the tractability of small carbs and the top end of larger carbs.

You probably would not need to go above 30 - 32mm bore size though.

But they work fab.

If you are interested, I have a pair of professionally rebuilt Delorto DCOE 40's that are set up for exactly that engine, I also have a manifold. It was what I was planning (as I also have a1300 crossflow) but I came across a new 1800 zetec so I'm battling with that at the moment.
