I think a selection off photos put all together as one is a "Montage". I know what type of image you are thinking of, but don't know
if it has the same name.

Ive heard it called a mosaic or 'mosaic of photos' before now.
- Clearly not a special name, but it gets the point across.
Ive often wondered if theres software that can do it for you.

Photomosaics apparently invented by a guy called Robert Silvers
there are several shareware packages that will do this for you you simply select an image and how many photos to use to create the effect, tell the
program where the images are to use to make up the bigger picture and it does it for you.
Be careful though if you're thinking of using full photos as there are examples on the internet 15 gig in size though the result is really
impressive I'd hate to think what time a home computer would take to sift through all the images to create the finished article.
hope this helps

I think you mean this... Photomosaic
There's software out there to do this with your own images. I've had it demo'd to me by a bloke I work with but he's on leave
today so I can't ask him what he used. It may have been Paint Shop Pro but I'm not 100%.
