You will buy a TKM the cheapest and it will be the cheapest to run (I have a TKM Extreme).
In relation to pace, the Rotax is quicker, but remember, the driver makes the biggest difference!
I would personally go TKM, then move to Rotax if you start to race properly and can justify the additional cost.

Gonna go with a rotax max as thats what the other guys have, any recommendations as to the best make ie Tonykart/birrel etc circa 2004 or are they all
as good as each other.

To be honest I don't know anything about the specific Rotax chassis. Best thing to do is to post a question on the 'notice board' on
karting.co.uk - They will provide you with everything you need to know.
