ZETEC Sump Hole, wont come off
I scraped a hole in my sump while out yesterday, Now I am struggling to get the sump off the car with the motor in place.
Starter motor removed , all the bolts undone,Sump drops 1/2 inch then wont move, seems to be snagging on the cover plate between motor & gearbox
.
Its a silvertop zetec mated to a MT75 in a tiger chassis. not a lot of space.
Do I have to split the Motor & Box in order to free the sump?

The bearing cover at the back hangs inside the bellhousing slightly... you may just get away with loosening the bellhousing bolts and pulling the
engine forward a bit... but there again?

Hi Andre,
Bad luck. If I remember correctly, you dont have to split the engine and box at all to get the sump off.
I reckon you'll have missed a bolt somewhere - I was convinced Id taken all the bolts of the sump pan on my tin top and Id missed 3!!!
Also when taking the sump pan off you might find it snags on some aux pump or bracket - mine fouled the power steering pump but a little bit of gentle
manipulation saw it come off - at an unlikely angle but it did come off!
hope that helps?
Did you make it home ok then or were you recovered?

the sump now a bit thin and dripping constantly about a pint every 20 - 30 mins, noticed when close to corbridge when we stopped for tea. so was able
to top up and get home on own steam.
I have been back under there now and can see it snagging,
I am thinking of taking a small grinder to the steel plate that is causing the hassel, plate between motor and gearbox, and cutting it off level with
engine.
I Should be able to fix back in place when refitting.

I had the same problem, in the end i pulled the gearbox back a tad and took a dremmel cutting disc to to one side which then makes the plate a two
part affair.
I decided to make a new bottom half plate so as to remove this problem in the future.
