Hi all,

I’m using an R1 radiator for the cooling system on my 02-03 R1 engine and it looks likely that the thermostat housing on the engine will end up as the highest point in my cooling system. Does anyone have any tips on what the best way to fill and bleed the system would be?

I've read of people jacking the front of the car up as high as possible and filling at the radiator, or tee-ing off the top radiator hose at the thermostat and filling from here, but not sure how effective either method is, or how either would allow you to bleed air from the system.

I put my header tank on a bracket to make sure it was the highest point, its pretty close, but it works...

I used 2005 engine, rad and header tank, I put the header tank on the bulkhead just a little higher than the thermostat, had a problem initially but then used hot water to fill and that sorted it, never had a proble since.

Drive up to the trailer (rears on the driveway), fill her up

Hot water would open a thermostat?!?

That would be VERY hot water....

Fill it up, close it, fire it, let it cool, fill again, etc... until it looks fine.

That's what I do, anyway...
