Just gone to car (its not run since late October) to warm engine so I could drain oil ready for taking engine out for rebuild.
Couldn't get it to start, noticed lights on power commander where not coming on, like a fool went tracing ignition feeds etc 1st.
It then occurred unplug and by pass power commander and see if it starts, starts 1st time, aside from making sure the earth is ok to it I cant really
think of anything else to check ? Any ideas ?
Its only been fitted since September so guess its covered by warranty but I'm worried about the losing the maps, the engine will be going for a
freshen up to the same place that fitted and mapped it so should be ok ?
Have you tried powering it up with a 9v battery Jon with the little lead that came with it - at least you'll be able to upload your map to your
laptop.

I had a similar problem on an R1 at Anglesey some years ago, i'd just took the car down to (Radicals place can't remember the name) had it
mapped, took the car too Anglesey for a trackday, and about an hour in to the day the car just cut out on me, got recovered to the pits and found the
power commander at fault, i just took it and threw it away. Wasn't worth finding out what the fault was, as it made little/no difference to the
car anyway.
Me personally i think they're just a marketing gimmick, out of 4 cars i've seen or had mapped with one, they all made 1-2bhp max more and
the fuelling didn't need changing much.
Where they do come in to there own though, is for setting up a car too pass emissions test's

Great call, still dead though.
Chris, the power commander did give good gains on mine, it was overfueling low down and weak top end, made the car much more drivable, pretty sure all will be sorted (fingers crossed) after rebuild and re map.
What happens when you plug it into your laptop . Does windows detect it ?
Been looking into bike engined cars and am interested by the comments Chris has said. what is the opinion on the power commander and as said is it
worth the effort and cost or is it just something that we are told we would like.
the reason i ask is I have one on my car but I have no idea if a map is fitted? the car runs but is it worht me getting it set-up or just forget it?
Powercommander made a huge difference to my R1. Slight increase in power (+7-8bhp) but a massive difference to the shape of the curve. Completely got ride of the common 4-5000rpm flat spot. Made the car a lot nicer to drive and better pick up from lowish revs.
With a Powercommander fitted and custom map installed, it made a significant difference in overall driveability of the car. I'm not sure if there
was an increase in BHP or not but then that wasn't the point of fitting the powercommander in the first place. We just wanted to ensure it was
running at it's optimum performance. Motorbike engines in BECs tend to run lean without any tweaks to fuelling, which in turn can lead to
premature engine failure.
