Right ive just bought a sierra donor off ebay. its a 1.6 laser B reg, but its mint, 1 owner since new with service history. only done 42000 miles.

Is it too good to scrap? is it worth while in the 1st place to gain a 1.6 pinto? my friend reckons its to heavy an engine to be any good?

Scrap it - you can turn a very uninspiring car into something fun

I know what you mean, my doner was much the same as yours, really good nick and FSH, the guy who sold it ask me to be careful as had loved the car and it had been in the family since new. I took it home and scrapped it, oh well sh1t happens.

Put it up for sale on the ford sierra owners forum, with the proviso that the buyer trades a scrapper with some money too. That way you keep a good one for being broken and take a bucket of c..p off the road. It also gives u some cash to put into your build.

Sorry to say this, but scrap it.

its not a classic yet - give it 10 years ..... i scapped a mk2 escort that was in very good condition. regretted it weekly for the last 2 to 3 years

a couple of my friends put across the 'escort they had' thats worth a bit now. but this thing is filling my garage. and its only what a cortina is these days, theyre not worth that much are they?

Low mileage donor should translate to a better car, knackered donor means moving tired worn parts across or lots of expence reconditioning.

Cortina's are now worth money, as are any old fords.

I drove my donor around for a month to make sure everything was ok before stripping it (engine, gearbox etc)

P reg Fiesta, absolutely no rust, immaculate inside and out, taxed and MOT'd, 97K miles, but it only cost me £460.

Now it's a Meggt Mojo that does 0-60 in under 7 seconds and makes me smile every time. The Fiesta would never have done that!

Drive it, strip it, rebuild it, enjoy it.

Yeah don't cut that up, you could get a (not rare at all) newer escort or mondeo with a better engine. In a few years it'll probably be worth serious cash, in the meantime if it's mint use it for running about a bit or trade it in for something you could scrap.

This is coming from a guy who's seen 3 Sierras since joining here!

Scrap it... nice 2nd hand parts to be had as it is low mileage. Get it stripped

mine the same as yours one owner 44k miles in vgc my theory was the bits i take off will be in good working order and they are saves alot of time and money stripping down and replacing seals bearings ect just a quick clean & paint then on to the new car!,
sierras are horrid and apart from the cossies i cant see alot of people scrambling to pay big money for these
