I suppose this is what I get for buying a part built kit.

My kit came with all the componants for a rolling chassis apart for rear disc and pads. It was in fact rolling when i got it. The man said it will be simple to purchase so rear discs, no worries.

He said the rear diff was 7.5inch from a Granada so I assume he got the drive shafts and hubs as well. On removing the wheel I found a bub with many holes drilled in it, it looks like someone has drilled a 5 stud in a 4 stud or vice versa. There are also another couple of holes drill for some reason I don't about (possible wheel wobble issue perhaps).

The calipers are reconditioned and I think Seirra as the front all match up. So I bought the right discs for that model. On attaching the 253mm, 33mm offset disc I find there slightly to small and the offset is about 10mm or so out. Bugger I think.

Online I find the only Ford discs with 4 stud that might fit have the same offset which might then require me to do some packing out. I also find some Granada discs that will fit size wise but they are vented when I assume only solid will fit!

It may be that I have front sierra hubs and brakes with 4 stud and rear Granada 5 Stud with rear Sierra Calipers. More research needed I think.

Not much of a question but more of a rant, any suggestions would be eagerly read.

granada hubs are 5 stud. they have redrilled the hub to take a 4 stud wheel so you can have the same wheels front and back.

personally i think its a bit of a bodge. the reason you are having issues is that you are trying to put sierra 4 stud disc on a granada 5 stud hub.

you will either have to respace the brake components or use granada discs and redrill the holes to 4 stud.

if it was me i would have left the hubs as 5 stud and just got the front wheels in 4 stud and the rears in 5 stud.

bit of a missmatch there

the two big holes in the rear flange are for removing the bearing carrier bolts so you can get a socket through.

You should post a pic of the holey flange so we can see if its safe to use.

I will post a pic, but I am at work at the moment and the car is at home. It looks like a bodge to me. I think the guy I bought it off was a bodger!

Have a word with JollyGreenGiant , IIRC he may have had issues with his rear ?

sounds like you've got a mix of granada and granada 24v cossie (and maybe some sierra too)

don't worry there are only 2 types of rear calipers - vented or soild discs

solid dics are all 253mm diam. 43mm high
vented are all 273mm diam. 33mm high (that could explain your 10mm offset)


sierra's and granada's use 253mm solid ones and as far as I know the hubs + stub axles are the same
(with either 4 or 5 studs in the drive flange/discs)


but the 24v cossies use 273mm vented discs with the same calipers as the escort/sierra 4x4 cossie's
(not sure if these hub carriers are different or not)

btw - this is what the drive flange should look like on a normal granada:

5 studs,
1 big hole to get a socket through (to remove the carrier without disturbing the bearing)
2 wee holes to ballance the big one (sierra just has 4 studs and 2 big holes)

Here is my Holey Flange (no pun intended). See if you guys think I need a new one. Also are some pics of my disc problem.

On there are some 4 stud 253mm diameter, 33mm depth sierra rear discs. These just don't fit really, there doesn't seem to be enough room to get the outer pad in and the piston sticks out over the edge of the disc.

Trouble is the only bigger offset within reason that ford did was the 43mm Vented discs and they are 20mm thick. These should fit but I think I would struggle with the pads and the disc would be about 2mm from the carrier bracket. Scares me a little. EBC brakes claim to do a 273mm diameter with a 43mm offset in 4 stud and 5 stud. Anyone have a opinion?

I think that you either need a set of the larger vented type calipers and discs (and a pair of new drive flanges with the right number of holes)

or a pair of new hubs carriers and drive flanges (I'm guessing that the you've got cossie hub carriers and the lugs are in slightly different place)

but its hard to tell without measuring everything up, I'll take some measurements of mine and have a look in my pile of spare bits and see if I've got any left…..

Cheers for that Mcerd1. Seems to me that a set of discs from the Granada 24v Cos would fit but that would leave very little clearence for the disc within the caliper and I measured it up that the caliper has a 40mm gap for the disc and pads. The pads being 13.7mm and the disc at 20mm.

A new set of flanges is a good idea I think. It will be pretty useless having 4 stud fronts and 5 stud rears though. Spose I could buy the multistud tires but that would limt my options. Or can you get flanges with either to fit?

the flanges should be interchangeable (I think)
but I'll take plenty of measurements of my std granada ones (which I'm sure are interchangable)

this is all for the solid disc type ones

one of mine has 0659/4 the other has 0658/4 (same on 2 sets of calipers)

the width of the caliper is 48mm (ignoring the piston, as per photo bellow)

and the carrier/slider both say 0671-4
the gap in the carrier is ~14mm
(the gap for the disc that is)




the distance between the holes on the hub carrier is ~52mm (2" )

Look at scorpio rear disks,

the scorpio used 4 bolt wheels and came in non vented on normal modles and vented on the 24V

Thanks a lot for your help guys and triple thanks to Mcerd1. I reckon I have solved the problem. When I bought the car the all the Calipers were new but the carriers were not. After blindly painting my Calipers and Carriers I tried to fit them back on the hubs, no fit. I reckon the previous owner did a exchange on the calipers but not the carriers and got the wrong ones back for the rears. I believe this because:

1: The Calipers were clearly new but the Carriers were rusty as $%^

2: I have the same Calipers has Mcerd1 but my Carriers are much bigger. The gap for the disc is 24mm compared to his 14mm

3: My Hub carrier is also bigger. By 15mm according to Mcerd1 pics.

I must have the wrong Calipers, I think I need the Calipers for the Vented rear discs. Like on the Granda Scorpio and the Sierra Cos
