Has any one used the complete rear sub frame off a sierra with a bec. looking to change by escort rear axle at some point. but dont want the hassle of
wishbone set up etc. comments please.
steve
A bec needs to be as light as possible.... afterall, the bike engine is not that torqy...
Adding a stonking mass of pig iron on the back of the car is not a verry good idea... atall!!!
So no.. do not do it!
^^ as above!
I'm planning to convert the live (Escort I think!) axle in my project to a Sierra based De-Dion, the plan being:
A, More choices of diff ratios & LSD if I want.
B, Stonger.
C, Operates in the same way as the live axle so I'll be able to use the same suspension pick-ups or they'll be fairly easy to sort.
D, Much easier to set up & make a decent job of than double wishbone IRS.
E, I'm going to try for an age-related plate & have all the Sierra doner bits already.
F, I just want to OK?
Of course I'll have an escort axle goin spare then...

I'm yet to hear someone say:
"The handling of my liveaxle Locost is crap. I can drive way better than the car is letting me"
If you need to upgrade then you must be a *really* good driver!
Why do you actually need to upgrade?
Cheers,
James
I am thinking of upgrading as my livr axle is making a noise on high revs and seems to have alot of play when turning the prop shaft. almost 5mm rotation.
5mm of free play in propshaft doesnt sound that excessive and your noisy axle may be nothing more than a worn bearing. If it was mine I'd be rebuilding axle its a lot less work than converting to de dion . .m.
