Bargain er, Caterham?

Caterham 7 Race Trackday Hillclimb Monaro Vxr8 PX | eBay

or not? Seems very expensive to me, and unless the engine has £8k worth of steel bits in the bottom it won't be anywhere near 230bhp either.

I wouldn't completely discount 230bhp out of the C20XE..... I ran one in a MK1 Escort Mexico that I built. It made 221bhp on the rollers, it had the following spec: Big valve coscast head with a mild porting job and Newman 420H phase2 cams, Jenvey DTH throttle bodies, cossie injectors, DTA48 ECU. The bottom end was rebuilt and was standard apart from ARP bolts. I ran it through a type 9 with a tran-x straight cut gear set in it and a tran-x LSD. In the dry it would light up the rear tyres in 1st to 3rd......

Seems abit pricey, but I wouldn't be too sceptical about the power either.i have afew mates running the xe all have seen 200+ brake with relativly little expence.another mate is runing 500 reliable bhp+ 70 with nos let on standard internals.im not a vauxhall guy myself but those engines seem bomb proof!

Well I've had 2 XE with jenvey bodies and both maxed out at 208/209bhp respectively. Spoke with SBD loads of times and was always told that 215+ always requires omegas.

Don't see anything wrong with the price... Caterhams have their market and that's the price they go for!

As for the BHP claims... well, he's referenced SBD (and Steve Broughton specifically) in his ad. He's also said the car features on their website. I guess that anyone with half a brain cell is going to contact Steve to ask some questions... and surely the vendor will know this, so why lie!?

You are probably right as I have no idea what spec they run, just know theyre not checkbook boys spending loads.never taken too much interest, different field of interest to me but the internals from their experiences are super strong.the kadett at 1:40 is on stock internals, not sure about speccys tigra after it

Depending on which dyno you go to variations of 10% between them aren't uncommon (and lots of operators prefer to have them read over as it keeps their punters happy). At the end of the day a dyno plot means little apart from pub bragging rights - it's what it does on the track that matters.

Cateringvans go for more than you would think - a quick look on Autotrader shows a load at that price or more.

Are they the Audi's of the 7 world then? Nothing you wouldn't see in other cars in the range, but priced significantly higher due to the badge?

Or have they genuinely got thousands of pounds of improvements over other cars?

Specky's car is a LET though, not an XE. Specky is a good friend of mine, alot of his videos are on YouTube under my name

Nice car, looks well worth it to me
wheels and tyres seem a little too big though
