Interesting Westie on Gumtree LINK HERE

I went to view over the weekend and decided it would be a bit too much to get it sorted for me, but someone else might think otherwise.

It was built with a pinto, but now has an 02 R1 motor in it, but not running - needs a few bits to finish conversion, but is SVA'd on an 03 plate.

Worth a look and the owner Keith is a decent bloke (call him on 07896 057711).

bit worried by the

"It needs connecting to the gearbox"

I hope he means axle with the r1 engine

kingster996 - 25/2/14 at 12:49 PM

haha - yes, he means "needs propshaft"

It has a sprocket convertor, but no prop.

Maybe needs new diff too - as original Sierra unit might be wrong ratio.

Also needs reverse box, gear change linkages, clutch actuation, throttle cabling, exhaust, proper engine cradle, fuel lines, coolant hoses, fuel pump, tunnel top, sump baffle (assumed missing), new fr springs (poss new shocks all round - little use, but old) - and bonnet is badly crazed. Might need clocks - not sure if they were there - but wiring loom and ecu was there, along with carbs, airbox and some (poorly) home-modded exhaust headers.

Would be a good buy for someone - just too much for me (asking £4200)

I have a few pics, if anyone is interested drop me a u2u

I think it needs bigger wheels

kingster996 - 25/2/14 at 01:02 PM

...another on-cost that tipped it over the edge

It's got potential but still too pricey IMO. New wheels, prop, diff, wiring, reverse, new bodywork all adds up. I reckon it's about 1k too pricey. Still I suppose there no Iva to worry about.

I did a breakdown of everything I would need to buy to get it up to my own personal spec (inc wheels, bodywork, roll bar, shocks etc) and it was a whopping £4.5k on top of asking price - and that's without knowing if the engine is OK. All the wee bits soon add up!

sdh2903 - 25/2/14 at 01:27 PM

Yep all adds up. There are some nice complete running westies around for 7k ish. Now time to buy before the weather picks up.

I would still be tempted at 3k just for a project. Flog the bike motor and stick a zetec back in it. Looking at it with it being sva'd so long ago I would be wanting a full back to bare frame rebuild and start from scratch.

kingster996 - 25/2/14 at 01:33 PM

Might be worth making him an offer.

I also figured it would be better off with a Zetec in - cheaper option for sure, but it still has two sets of exhaust holes cut out of the body whatever engine it ends up with, as well as the home-made engine mounts - so a full strip n rebuild would be on the cards.

sdh2903 - 25/2/14 at 01:34 PM

Did he sound like he'd move on price ?

kingster996 - 25/2/14 at 01:39 PM

Yep - he's got it at a mate's business premises due his house move and his mate wants it shifted!

I put in a very cheeky £2k bid which he turned down flat (not unexpected!) - but think he'd go for a more sensible offer.

sdh2903 - 25/2/14 at 01:40 PM

Hmmm interesting. Must resist

kingster996 - 25/2/14 at 01:52 PM

Just asked and he says his bottom line is £3,600

sdh2903 - 25/2/14 at 01:55 PM

Ok. Cheers, still too many pennies for me. I actually just emailed an offer of 2.5k

kingster996 - 25/2/14 at 02:20 PM

Well, I doubt he will take it, but I think your bid is about right - worth that for an SVA'd SEiW rolling chassis that needs a full strip and rebuild - and maybe the bike engine is a good one, who knows?

sdh2903 - 25/2/14 at 08:24 PM

You're right he didn't!

Good job really might have had some explaining to do to the mrs

Shame id found a nice low miles duratec that I could have picked up on the way home.

Found its way to Wolverhampton and onto eBay for a starting price if £4000. Looks like the new owner was so excited they couldn't even be bothered to take it off the trailer before advertising it on eBay!
