I can remember the 'Warrior' 16v heads but this one does'nt jog my memory at all!

Strange, twin cam... Go to all that effort producing castings and then only use 8 valves. Must have been designed for a particular series stipulating 8v??

Cheers

was actually made just for rallying , so they had a wider powerband - they were much cheaper than warrior heads , but because of the expense and cosworth just about on the scene by then , not many were sold . I believe it was also an attempt at getting rid of the dreaded cam follower/cam failure that was so often in pintos .

Anyone have any idea what sort of power was available from this head?

i would'nt say it was of the rocking horse variety, but looks like some derivative.

and if it was real piper, would'nt the rocker cover look a bit more professional than that?

what lubes the cam lobes?

tom

I think it's probably real - it gets a mention on spanner fodder.com

http://www.spannerfodder.com/the_works_escorts-pinto.php

It looks as though oil from the cam bearings flows out onto the buckets and lubes the lobes that way?

Cheers

most certainly are real , and no there isnt many about , compared to the thousands of locost derivatives . I think at the time , the spec was about 190 hp , which in those early days was quite good . But that only came about because of the better cams you could use for the engine .

£2000 new ??

they must be good!

the warrior automotive and holbay
16v heads were about £3000 at the time and that was not inc valves etc.

btw the warrior 16v heads have been relaunced by connaught

at £4500 for the head complete

liam.mccaffrey - 11/11/04 at 03:17 PM

it looks a bit amateur to me, not that thats a bad thing, a bit rough around the edges, really interesting though and if it goes as well as suggested who gives a sh*t what it looks like
