Like a bad penny once again for the humpteenth time ...... this time with no details of the last 4 owners....... my old cars back on fleabay

oliwb - 19/9/06 at 12:27 PM

again! How on earth can this car be sold so often on ebay??? If it was a wreck it would be dead by now and if it were decent someone would want to keep it! Crazy....maybe someone will try and pick it up and take it home on a train again??? Oli.

Well there is this thread which I think probably contains the big hint. http://www.locostbuilders.co.uk/viewthread.php?tid=11849

If the DVLA have it on their books as a suspected ringer it might be challenging to get the V5 sorted out.

Guinness - 19/9/06 at 07:26 PM

Perhaps the car is getting smaller. The photos on ebay certainly are!

I meant as thefact that you said "my old cars back on fleabay" and the fact you "wish it would disappear"

Syd Bridge - 21/9/06 at 08:18 AM

Should be easy enough to give it a new identity.

Remove the old chassis number, coat of paint all round to look like just built, new chassis number of your own liking, SVA; now a 'new car' to DVLA and probs all sorted for very little money!

The kit car world is full of loopholes, or just plain big enormous holes in the rules.

Cheers,
Syd.

But then theres the reliability and saftey of hot parts

ch1ll1 - 21/9/06 at 10:29 AM

so whats the catch?

seen it a few time on flebay

ned - 21/9/06 at 11:12 AM

the car was built by spd, ringed from a written off indy and had a dodgy propshaft fitted which came off on track when woodster owned the car. legal proceedings followed and spd disappeared is the short version of how i remember it....

Ned.

I (rightly or wrongly) wrote to the only bidder warning them of the cars potential provenance, and pasted links to these threads; this is the response I got from the seller today:
"hi andrew
i have recieved an email from an ebay member regarding my mk indy , you seem to be insinuating that the car has sum kind of history and redirecting people to the locost builders site , i have been on the site and reads all the relivent material , which is all untrue i have a letter from the dvla stateing that there is nothing wrong with this vehicle , also a hpi check confirming this , if these emails keep being sent to other ebay members i will contact ebay regarding this matter .... if you do persist i will contact my own solicitors ... M.RICHARDS"

Kissy - 4/10/06 at 02:02 PM

They withdrew their bid too.

JoelP - 4/10/06 at 10:22 PM

i think this is a big over reaction. If theres only the one car bearing this plate and a v5 that matches all numbers, then FFS leave the poor bastard alone and let him sell it in peace (or pieces... )

Well put Joel!

As long as the car is now safe, and rebuilt with suitable and strong parts, then what is the problem?

If any of you lot think it's dodgy, then you are perfectly within your rights to contact DVLA and the police and tell them, and get criminal proceedings underway against someone responsible for this, and you should do so immediately, OR SHUT UP AND LET THINGS MOVE ON!

A kit car is the easiest thing on earth to 'ring'. New chassis number, new SVA, new rego, and it's a different car. I've seen it done!

Cheers,
Syd.

iank - 5/10/06 at 09:26 AM

I've also seen this happen, but this car has already been reported to the DVLA as a ringer (according to the original threads).

That makes it a little different as a new buyer could be badly stung when they send in the V5, the fact it's been on ebay so often implies there is something unusual. Don't plod automatically crush ringers these days?

If someone would do the job properly and get a new chassis number and reg with an SVA it would help.

If the guy still has his car and V5, then DVLA have obviously thought the thing OK and don't want to do any more concerning it.

If it was dodgy, DVLA would have insisted it be removed from the road, with the police being involved as well.

Let the poor guy alone and get rid of the thing. You never know, someone from here may get a bargain, then do as I said above, and end up with a nice kosher car on a new reg.

Cheers,
Syd.
