Well its no gas so it will be a bit messier than a normal one, It doesn't say if it can be converted or not. I don't think its the kind of thing you should skimp on but if your on a tight budget it would probably do the job and similar welders are quite a bit more elsewhere.

It does not look like it can be converted as no gas has postive earth and those that can be changed have a facility to swap the terminals. It actually resembles a SIP/Cosmo (although might not be) and they have poor wire feed by all accounts. I bought this one http://www.lawson-his.co.uk/scripts/products.php?cat=MIG%20Welding%20Machines%20%3C%20200%20amp. Although its less powerful it is fine for 16 swg.

The clamp set looks a decent deal though

I have a clarke 150 & 90 gasless (no garage etc!!) used to think the 90 was ok till I used the 150 the quality and ease of welding is far superior, only advise i can give is to use some anti-spatter spray ( from machine mart ) makes a hell of a difference and saves a lot of tidying up afterwards. oh if any one wants a cheap clarke 90 gasless I know were theres a spare one !!
