Whats more its 1963, and Tax Exempt Mind you with all the Mods, I would not be sure it still has enough points to retain the registration, and thus its Historic Status. Probably end up as a Q plate if Vosa investigated it.

Still... Yup... Sleepers are Fun... I had a 1972 Land Rover with a 3 Litre V6 Capri Engine in it, and that was fairly quick... Fun at the traffic lights in town!. Wheel Spins from a Landy

Way, way, way back I had this crazy idea for a sleeper.. I think for the greatest effect, there are two approaches that could be combined; First off, take a make and model of car that isn't exactly renowned for its sportiness, the 2CV and Fiat Panda mentioned earlier are great examples of this. Another approach would be to get a type of vehicle noone really expect to be quick, such as the Land Rover mentioned earlier...

Put the two together, and basically just start off with the bodyshell of one of the most ridiculous -yet completely inconspicuous- cars ever made..

My idea; the Daihatsu Hijet!



Just look at the daft little bugger! It's so tiny and ugly! Also note that it is really pretty light. That with some proper engineering, the center of gravity could be made very low, despite the high sides.. most notably however, note that there is plenty of space for a mid-mounted V8 or even V12.. oh, and they come cheap as chips, too! What it needs is a custom made chassis, with wishbones all around, some decent brakes. but a nice big engine in the back (it's just a wonderfully large engine bay, really.. ) It could do with some wider tires, too..

Wasn't overly quick but could pull anything

imagine backing upto a saxo lad sat behind you at the lights then reversing and pushing him backwards
