Found out today the 1 cent (us penny) is worth around 3 1/2 melted.
it is probably in their constitution that it is illegal to melt the currency - if found guilty the yanks will probably invade !!!!
you could buy them in bulk, smelt them into billets. Then export the billets back to the states selling them to the mint who'd make them back into coins while you are creaming off the profit
it has been true of some uk coins in the past and I beleave the 1p coin is marginal
Some years back (10 or so) our 1p and 2p ceased to be copper/bronze and became plated steel due to material costs.
1p and 2 p in copper/bronze is now worth more than face value.
It is illegal to deface legal tender.
it may be for other countries, but it's not in the UK.
as long as you don't plan to use it as legal tender again, it's fine.
are billets classed as legal tender?

I believe that treason still carries the death penalty??
IIRC So does arson in a naval dockyard and raping a member of the Royal family. Perhaps that's why Philip left the greek navy, to protect his
shipmates.
Oops, is that special branch I can hear knocking?
No they have gone to the wrong house again.
