A couple of years ago richard hammond did a prpgramme on school meals, including sausages at £20.00 per thousand or 2p each. Sold at asda in packs or 8, with 2years of inflation bout perhaps sold as a loss leader, they are too cheap.

Hammond's programme got an expert to make some cheap sausages. They were made from fatty pork, fat, skin, lips ... and rusk. He said they did taste like sausages.

You've got to wonder how good for you they can be, but then if you've only got a pound in your pocket, you can either have the nice sausages, or the 2p each ones and the 59p lager.

For that price theyr not going to be exceptionally tasty.

If your on a tight budget then theyr a bargin.

Having recently moved out of my parents place I was determined to live as cheaply as possible by buying the Sainsbury's 'economy' brands.
Which I was doing including sausages.

I then bought some of the good ones as we had had a dietician over for dinner.

The difference in taste was amazing... the expensive were soooo much nice. 90% pork as opposed to 30%.... but about 3times the price!

Won't be buying the crap ones again!

Cheers,
James

The idea of these sausages makes me feel ill. I will not put such crap into my body. There is absolutely no excuse for people saying they can't afford to eat well. Lets face it, everyone finds money for the things they prioritise... From the tramp with his Tenants SuperStrong, to the chavs with their Sky TV and endless smoking habit. Most of us probably are not exactly flush, but we find money for our cars....

If you want to save money, then shop smartly, not cheaply. Buy quality ingredients that count (meat in particular) not ready made meals as they cost so much more. You can always make a nicer tasting, and cheaper equivalent at home. Plus you actually know what you are eating - something I amazed more people don't question.

i used to advocate it, but after a year of feeding myself, i realise why spend the money on tomato sauce when you could just buy right stuff in the first place.

it's a bit like buying a corsa and covering it with carbon fibre to make it a koenigsegg substitute.

i eat an awful lot of butties (read, every day at work), i recently ditched sausages cos i realised that when you go to a burger bar, you will get the cheapest crappest sausages available. I now get bacon and egg sandwiches cos theres a limit to how bad you can abuse bacon.

As an aside, the environmentalists should love these sausages! All that waste meat recycled!

Buy British! There's a reason it's more expensive - our welfare laws are amongst the best in the world. The result of which is our pork tastes a damn site better than the watery crap you buy in from Denmak. Just my 2p's worth anyhow!

also it supports local industry who have to pay taxes so in turn increases the amount of money the gov. have so in turn will slowly reduce the amount of tax you pay

it reduces the amount of food miles done thereby saving the planet

increases the amount of jobs in the uk thereby reducing the tax burden

contains better ingredients thereby increasing your own health

because the animals are treated better the veggies will be about 0.0001% happier (they'd still rather you didn't eat it but at least it had a better life)

oh and it tastes better ...... not that this is of any importance
