Has anyone on here got any experience with the non-hydralic exhaust expander tools.

Exhaust Tail Pipe Expander Reamer Opener 1 1/2 - 2 1/2' on eBay (end time 24-Feb-11 08:10:36 GMT)
I need to expand a exhaust pipe, so that a pipe of the same original diamter will fit inside.

Cheers,

B

If it a one-off try nipping into your local exhaust specialist - they will probably do it for a drink

Don't work well on Stainless.

There's a surprise.

I've asked a few times about this - it seems they're for mild steel and in reality only good for taking out dents

You need to heat the pipe to cherry red first and use a rattle gun to expand really quickly.

They look the job but fail to live up to expectation unless on really thin metal

They are really only intended for cleaning up the ends of replacement exhaust that have been damaged in transit.

they dont work on stainless all that happens is you strip the thread on in it making it a bin job. tried cherry red but all that does is melt the rubber o rings and then it all goes down hill from there.

i gave up and just butt welded the pipes that i wanted to sleeve, turned out ok in the end as i could still get the exhaust off.

DONT heat the pipe. Youll melt the O-Rings and all the fingers will fall apart.

Ive tried a set with an air gun, and it doesnt work. The only thing ive found that works is hammering a solid piece of metal in the end of the tube to expand by force. Not easy to do without damage or a hydraulic expander.

Do an ebay search on exhaust joiner.

this product claims to be able to stretch stainless exhausts with an air gun.
