faulty handbrake light
markyb - 6/9/13 at 06:53 PM

I was out for a drive yesterday and noticed that my handbrake light was flickering even though the handbrake was off so took things apart today to try to see where the problem was.

Now it has got even worse with the light being permanently on - this even stays on when the connector is detached from the handbrake. Since this now points to an electrical issue I am at a a loss at where to find the fault (electrics are the spawn of the devil in my eyes)

I bought the loom from MNR so the wiring should be ok - personally I could live with the light staying on but MOT in a few weeks so dont think the tester would be too keen

any ideas on what I should be looking at ?

thanks

Is it connected to your fluid level indicator?

Is it low on brake fluid ? some times its the same warning light

Had exactly the same thing in my Westfield, took all the connections apart and cleaned them to no avail still flickering especially when slowing down. All that was wrong was the fluid needed topping up a bit even though it was already at the max level.

Cheers,Sean.

4 votes for fluid level - guess who changed a brake flexi the other day and bled the brakes

Have checked the fluid level and it it just above minimum so will get some more fluid tomorrow and top it up

thanks to one and all

A word of caution if you need to top up the brake fluid you should check for fluid leaks and/or pad wear.
