Hazards not flashing
chrisbmxr - 28/2/18 at 07:45 PM

Hi all,

I recently bough an MK Indy Blade, and there's an issue with the hazards. When the hazard switch is on the indicators illuminate but don't flash? Is this a relay issue?

Also, all of the indicators on the car have been replaced with LED's. Could this be causing the issue?

The indicators also flash too fast which I think from my experience with bikes is due to the resistance of the LED's, so I'll need to sort that as well.

Thanks.

Sounds like you have a standard flasher unit fitted.

It is a good idea to get a constant rate flasher - this will fix the flash rate. Ebay is your friend.

Just make sure you get one with the same pinout as your present flasher.

The down side is that it does not flash any faster when an indicator stops working.

yes (almost) certainly changing to LED has caused those problems. as above, just get an 'electronic' flasher unit, or change back to standard bulbs

Halfords stocks the correct flasher btw

Thanks fellas.

Would something like this do the job ...

Also, is the flasher relay likely to be located behind the dash somewhere? There's a bit of a mess of wires so it might be a right arse to get to!

When I built an Indy the flasher unit was wired in behind the dash.

No guarantee that yours is though - depends how the builder went about wiring the car and which wiring loom he used (did he make his own or buy a pre-built loom etc.)?

No experience with LED bulbs myself, but there have been several threads on here about them suggesting that people have had issues when changing to them.

Yes - that should do ok.

Mine is easily accessible. Just needs the small panel infront of the gear stick removing and it's ontop of the transmission tunnel. Hopefully yours will be in a similar place.

I'm in the middle of swapping to LED myself, so will probably need the same relay as above.

However, my front indicators won't be LED, so will that relay cope with a mix of LED and non LED?

yes that relay should cope with a mix without problems

its rated 0.02 to 20 Amps

Nice one mate

I'm gonna check the current one first as it may already have one in
