I'm sure one of you out there can give me some pointers before I take my 159 diesel into Alfa. I posted a while ago about what I thought was an EGR issue and on advise given set to work on the EGR valve. Cleaned it and all seemed well, but a few days later running like a bag of crap again. Convinced the EGR valve was faulty bought a new one, fitted it and all well again. A few days later running like a bag of crap once again.

I've checked as best I can that there are no air leaks but the problem seems more fundamental and probably more expensive. I posted before that there is now some turbo flutter as well. No idea whats brought that on.

Its the cycle of poor running then ok for a while that concerns me. ECU perhaps, maybe faulty injector. Any thoughts would be really useful as I can feel a hefty Alfa bill looming.

Can you not find a local independant specialist who will plug it in and check the diagnostics? might be some fault codes logged which can give you an idea where to start?

Yeah, booked into Independant Alfa specialist in Tamworth Monday for diagnostic check but I'd feel happier with some background info.

I had a Mercedes that used to run ok for half an hour then run badly, you could turn the key off and restart and it would run ok again then after a sort while run badly again.

Transpires it was a duff sensor and eventually the ECU went into limp home mode once it had realised the sensor was out of parameters.

Unfortunatelt the only way to find this out was diagnostics on the computer.

I did however go to a Bosch centre rather than the Merc dealer, those guys know what their about and fixed it at a fraction of the cost.
