What did it come off?

Got the vin plate off the car it came off, otherwise crack off the cove and count the teeth

Failing that just name it Trevor!

ok sierra 7" diff bolt on shafts if it had a tag then that would tell you the ratio
Ray

Hellfire - 26/7/10 at 07:47 PM

7" Sierra diff. To check the ratio, put a mark on the input flange or propshaft and count how many revolutions it takes to complete one full turn of the wheel. It will almost certainly be either 3.62 or 3.92

Is that not the 7.5"???

BenB - 26/7/10 at 08:03 PM

Where are these infamous tags? Never seen one on a diff but might be looking in the wrong places

jase380 - 26/7/10 at 08:07 PM

tags are normaly attached to one of the diff cover bolts, but in my experience are that rotten and covered in poo you cant read em anyway

brookie - 26/7/10 at 08:07 PM

there loads of numbers on it but cant make them out so what the best way of doing it them make it as simple as pos please im new to this and still learning

Killer - 26/7/10 at 08:13 PM

2 diffs
2 diffs

interestedparty - 26/7/10 at 08:28 PM

Do what Hellfire said and count how many times the input needs to go round to get the outputs (shafts) to do one full turn. You need to check both, and it they end up in slightly different places, average it so one is ahead by the same amount as one is behind if you see what I mean.

copy the bit of code under the pic - and paste that into your post like this:
[pg=48498] (ive turned off the BB code in this post so you can see the code not the pic)

as for which diff - whats under those plastic caps on the top mount, is it the bolt heads or the nuts ?
