Looking at going V8, or even v12 turbo.
Redoing the front chassis so block can be upto 1m in length, so v12 is possible now.
Thinking that v8 turbo makes the most sense, looking at a M113 Mercedes engine, or 1uzfe Lexus/toyota.
M113 has been supercharged sucessfully so bodes well, 3 valve per cylinder sohc design seems a bit old hat, but objectively won't make a big
difference to airflow. Will have problem with the bellhousing patern - can anyone help? Already have the lexus somewhere.
Think that the 5l over 4l is a big argument towards the w113.
Any view of considerations required?
Re block will look at rebuilding new pistons/rods. The M113 can be bored out to accept common american V8 size forged pistons so will cost little,
rods will have to be custom, may be making using my homemade CNC machine, then get the little and big ends professionally machined /bushed.
Any other V8 or V12 worth thinking of?
Gearbox will be BMW GS6-53DZ, building a transfer box for 4wd system.
Thanks
Darren
Ps. Might not reply tonight as I will be training.
Bmw or audi seem obvious choices?
Either using audi quattro gearbox etc, or bmw v8 (or v10?) With your bmw gearbox?
Hi,
There is a Diablo replica, burnt orange, will be at donington has a BMW v12 with 4(four) turbos on it - nearly 800bhp

That's the one. Sam is his name and it's an incredible machine
Anyone knows what the setup is 1 turbo per 3 cylinders? or 2 with 6?
Going by the picture it looks like 2 turbos feeding 6 cylinders per side.

I can see 4 air filters and 4 turbo pipes that feed 2 intercoolers that then feed a bank each ???

I used a cad file to convert my 1uzfe to Toyota r154 . Might be of use if you go Lexus v8
I went with an Audi 4.2V8 because AFAIK the engine is hte lightest production V8 in a reasonable price range and it is known to take 7psi happily on standard parts (but I don't plan to turbo it just yet). It's as short as a short thing but fairly wide.
Turbo V8.... off the shelf -
Maserati 3200 engine V8 3.2lt petrol 48k miles ideal for kit car
I have had one of these engines - very nice but quite tall - they have a sandwich block with a built in sump.
This on the other hand would probably work out cheaper... and its fun.
If you can live without turbos ...... IIRC these were a Ferrari design.
2006 MASERATI QUATTROPORTE 4.2 V8 ENGINE
Dry sump so probably not too high.
I make a lot of parts but would not dare do Con rods. Most rods are made from forged blanks for very good reasons. I would try and find some rods and
modify your crank to fit.
Thanks Froggy, got some dimensions for the lexus V8, even got it laser cut, would be good to compare sizes. Will U2U if i go LEXUS V8.
Re con rods, was thinking of making 2 spare and testing for strength. I know I can make the rods, will look into materials, but will have to get them
professionally honed to produce a good quality rod, with square ends.
The egale rods I installed in my 3SGTE didn't look too special to be honest!
Thanks
Darren
My v8 has a pair of ct26kkk blowers on and I'm going to run 7psi on stock compression . The Lexus seems to take boost well
Rather than a v8 or v10 why not split the difference and go for the rs6 v10 turbo, quick remap and you have 700hp. Look up rs6 c6 BHU engine code.
I'd spend the money on oem tried and tested rather than development, guess whatever you go for you are looking at £5k+ budget.
Personally I would go NA and a bmw m5 v10.
Another off piste alternative starting to appear is the bently continental w12 engines, iirc these are quite short, the sameengine is in the phaeton
as well.

Audi RS6
4.2 V8
2x KKK K04
450-480hp, upgrades to 650hp nicely
W12 engine may require fitting further upfront due to width. Did have a look the pheaton ones are cheaper, as they are not turbo.
RS6 is a good call will have to look at that. Lexus V8 seems the best for cost, although a bit small at "only" 4l
Might do well to visit a few brakers and see what they have!
Still open to ideas!
In the USA the BMW M5 E60 (S85; V10) could be ordered with a manual, looks like that is the same box you are using.
Not a lot of turbo conversions available, but
That should give you the performance you are looking for
Nice engine, the slr engine looks tasty, albiet supercharged not turbocharged.
Fairly similar to the M113 i was taking about with dry sump, different pistons, rods cramshaft cams, ........... oh wait it is quite different!
SLR engine
I've concluded, having thought about turbos on the V8, that it's just too much (at least to start with). I plan to be 500kg, 500kg with 300hp N/A is fine with me, if I need to I can get ~450 without much effort and 2 blowers, but I think the drivability will fall apart.

A lot of engine for £300
Audi A8 D2 4.2 V8 aluminium block complete engine 300BHP ABZ with ancillaries
Am I right in thinking the Audi v8 has the same bell housing pattern as a rover v8 for fitting to a zf 4 speed auto?
I have the bell housing pattern somewhere. I doubt it but maybe.
What 2wd manual gearboxes will bolt up to it ?
Hi, been drawn to the M119 mercedes engine. Not yet been able to find an engine width yet, might have to contact an e bay seller to find out. Audi
engine looks good, is that an FSI version? If so aftermarket ecu options are an issue.
As my car will be in the 1-1.1 tonne range, 300hp will not go quite as far as a 500kg car!
Thanks
Darren
In what form factor. Quite a lot of transaxles (for mid engine rwd) but I'm not aware of any 'normal' rwd ones just yet. You wouldn't want a monster heavy v up front in a normal layout though...
If you're still interested in the 1UZ-FE, these may be useful to you:

It's a good lump, you should be able to get 4-500hp out of it with twin turbo's, if it's an early version you wouldn't even need
to crack the head. They can cope with stupid power (up to 1000hp from memory) with a little modification, but tbh that's probably overkill on a
small and light car. They do sound nice though
I've got one lying around my garage, if you want to know anything about them let me know. I was using it on a previous project which I have
given up on to build my Haynes. Funnily it actually fits in the Haynes chassis - just:

ZF auto has a bolted on bell housing and appeared in many different cars so maybe in one guise, the RV8 does not have the same bolt pattern as Audi, you can get adaptors to mate the Audi manual transaxle to RV8
