I just started the Duratec for the first time....however apart from running rich (I still need to sort out the fuelling) I have a leak between the manifold and the head.....

What sealant should I use (I used the standard metal gasket, but I am not convinced that the manifold flanges are completely flat).....recommendations please?

Or is there a better gasket to use to accommodate some variation across the flange?

Can you source a laminated gasket? These are around 2-3mm thick before being fitted.

The Duratec gasket is laminated and crushes when bolted up, I had similar issue and fitted new one which solved problem.

I had the same problem and couldn't get any gasket to seal properly.
In the end I used Loctite 5920 copper silicon. It's been sealed for a year now.

Had my duratec out for the first drive yesterday Apart from a carb problem at cruise all seemed good.

Manifold off, sheet of glass with some wet and dry on top and get rubbing.

With care you can get close with a 9" angle grinder with a new disc fitted holding it flat against the face of the disc, take care doing this !!! I clamped my manifold in a big vice, I would not recommend doing it the other way around.

Which altenater is that in your 1st pic ?
