Zetec with broken cam-belt, waste of time?

Is it even worth opening up, or should be be exchanged or replaced?

I know of a donor that I can get lots of good bits off, but don't know if it's worth messing with the engine at all

1.8 or 2.0??

They are that cheap it's hardly worth the effort.

16 bent valves on a focus i did. Idler pulley broke up, slapped a new head on it. Its all good now.

Was a 2.0l paid about £170 for a head. I couldnt be arsed taking the engine out though, hence I just did the head

It's a 1.8, but I see a consensus emerging here, and as a car in GWO can be got for £400 odd I'm inclined to agree.

Thanks for the input

A lot less than £400 --- less than 200.

Although probably only between 6 and 10 valves will be bent but the chances are you will find valve guide damage.

So to sum up, do you think the chances are good of an inexpensive repair?

valves are quite cheap cant remember exactly

£4 for on type (inlet or exhaust)
£7 for the other
very rough prices

But say you bent 8 of the cheap ones its only £32 plus gaskets and time.

I personally would take the head off and have a look. see how many are bent. Wont take long.

or ditch it and get a 2.0l
