OT but interestin 1989 Ford Escort

MOT ‘til 31st Jan 09 tax ‘til end of Feb 3 door 1297cc

For sale my daughter’s old faithful Escort, it has only done 74000 miles from new and 2 of the 3 former owners are in the family.
Fitted with original 1297cc engine which runs as sweet as a nut, only done 3k since last MOT car has been maintained to be reliable, regardless of expense – had new tyres and battery last year.
The body has a few dings and it is in need of some welding for next MOT- anti roll bar and trailing arm mounts which is the only reason we are letting it go- the labour charge makes minor repairs expensive. Fitted with sun roof, interior is clean and tidy the rear wiper has packed up – possibly the switch.
The car is not a death trap just showing its age- in the hands of an enthusiast who has access to cheap welding it should go on giving happy motoring for years to come, it is too good to scrap or break and might make it as a classic one day!
Car can be driven away until end of month, looking for a reasonable offer, thanks.
Tel 07732357267 for further details

not many of these on the road now. I had a red Orion till it got totally pasted in a pile up

It would be sad if all the ordinary cars like these just got lost to the banger racers.

It'd be like at a car show - 'Dad what did you use to drive? ehem doesn't seem to be any here son...'

Fame is when your old car is plastered all over the internet

...?

Pull me up if I'm missing the point here, but that's a 1.3 Mk3 Escort, probably a "Popular" at that. Not Ford's greatest achievement (and nor was the Mk4 either).

no its a MKIV

apparently they were the better ones to have as all the mistakes were made on the mkIII. Good runners but never a classic. A lot have been boy racered or stolen as they were apparently easy to nick...

I'm with you trextr7monkey, too good to scrap and certainly good enough as a 1st car.

But have you seen some cars in the scrapyard. They look too good to be there too but it comes to them all.

My grand-dad used to say that no matter the price-tag they all eventually go to the same place.... ...with a few exceptions of course!!

Just back from dropping off (currently carless ) daughter at York

It might finish there yet but we thought it a good oportunity for someone (young or old) and Whippy is right- how many Vauxhall Vivas have survived and who would have thought MK 1 Fiestas would develop a cult and how many sieras or these escorts do yousee every day?

BTW for anyone looking it also had new strut inserts up front last year and a new waterpump about 6 weeks ago

I had one of these from 92 'til 99. Seven years I had had my 1.3 pop. I only sold it because I was given an Orion.

Nice little car, had wheels, can't complain

There was one near here with a 2ltr turbo engine in it, real street sleeper stuff as it looks like a standard red MkIV Escort I had a maroon 1600cvh engined one for 7 years and all I ever did to it was change the filters and some tyres.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.

Aye those were the days...........

anyway it is still sitting here and while it might be worth taking to bits and selling my wife's patience is rather stretched with 2 kits and a large pile of useful bits cluttering up the place!!
