30 Gears??
If i connected this to the UN1 fitted to my mid engined kit, in theory, id have 30 gears, allowing for a full range of accelleration and
economy...??
All it would need is a stubby propshaft between the output shaft and the UN1 input shaft, then paddle shift for the Bike engine, and the gear lever
for the "Range".......
Anyone considered this before?
The car only weighs 930Kg at the moment, so removing the renault lump and replacing with the Bike Engine would reduce that to say, 900 (if not more),
so performance would still be quite good??
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

At 900kg performance would not be the right word

Having the existing 5 speed connected as the output would also negate the need for engineering a reverse, as it will already have one.....
This is interesting me now.......

Richard.

I think ReMan wasn't being positive.
At 850kg I couldn't sensibly fit a bike engine to my 205 despite the weight drop down to closer 800kg.
I believe some success has been had with large capacity bike engines in completely stripped early golf gtis where the weight is down near 700kg
although still significantly down on bhp/tonne compared to the 400-500kg BECs on here.
I'm a CEC boy, but I'm sure you'll find that even the seven style BECs are on the upper end of the weight spectrum that bike engines
can propel successfully.

Im a CEC believer as well, just thinking this through and asking for opinions.
I dont think that 900Kg is too high for a bike engine.
It clearly wont accellerate as well as a 500Kg car admittedly, but it would still be reasonably quick. When you consider that most BEC's can
wheelspin in the earlier gears at WOT, the amount of power lost through poor traction.
Traction would be improved through the additional weight, however this will have an adverse effect on the accelleration ability as you say.
Kindest Regards,
Richard.

I certainly dont think it would be any slower than the 2.2 renault engine i have currently.

BUT ..... what about the clutch / fly / crank ???
They're designed to push a bike, two up with a margin to spare so reality is 350kg ish (guess). Therefore they work in a bec but on the limit.
When you get to 900kg you're surely going to struggle and find components have a very short lifespan.

Thanks for posting this.
I've just acquired another K4 (complete running package), otherwise I'd grab this.
Leaves it as a unit for someone else though.
