Seriously considering buying one tomorrow. Any reason why i should not?
ETA - it says it includes a Guarantee certificate, would this be counted as evidence of compliance for IVA?

interesting i'd like to know peoples thoughts too. my worry is always the doors and boot bit, presumably you just tape these off safely and then
not worry about them and rely on the shock sensor alone?

wouldn't ultrasonic go off all the time, isn't microwave the norm for open top cars?

Yeah but i think it would be ok if the sensor was fitted behind the scuttle pointing down so it detected your feet under the dash?

Great idea, or put a switch on the throttle, ignition, handbrake, steering wheel or anything else that needs to be moved in order to drive the car.

also what about the one review it has on halfords
Pros: we feel bette rnow our car is protected.
Cons: having to wait to set the alarm

Really? Everything else in their store is expensive? I've bought a couple things from there on offer and a few not on offer...
If it were true though, shouldn't you be trying to belittle them by calling them Halspensive as setting something for a certain price really
isn't Fraud...

I woudnt bother.
IMHO:
Get a Cat2 Thatcham Imobiliser.
I got mine of Ebay for £25.
An Ultrasonic Alarm in an open top car isnt a lot of good.
Then talk with your local VSIB fitter and see if they will sign the certificate if you fit it.
I have to say that I am lucky as they race a MK Indy, so were very helpful.
My local place were good, and signed it for a tenner.
That way I get a discount on my insurance, and they are also happy with a Thatcham device fitted.
Best to fit the imobiliser when doing the wiring, then you can put all the wiring in the loom and tape it up. Its much harder to overcome, than wires
that are just clipped alongside the loom.
Also you can fit the control box in a difficult to get at place to prevent tampering.
(Make sure its well protected from water and damp, and well sealed up)

ha ha +1. you go in, you see the price. if you're not happy you don't buy, if you are then you buy. thats not fraud. now, if they were

Thanks Wilkingj just ordered the Thatcham unit. I'm doing the wiring now so makes sense to add one for £34 Inc postage. They're just up
the road so might be able to get them to sign it. If so it'll probably pay for itself om my first insurance.

Yup, they are nothing special, but mines been in the Viento for 3 years and still works well.
Just mount the control box well out of the way, and somewhere dry. Oh and a bit of WD40 on the dash socket thing. Mines been well soaked by rain etc,
and still works OK. Just the chrome dulled a bit!
Speak with your local VSIB (alarm) installer, and see if they will sign the certificate. You wont get the insurance discount without a Signed
certificate with the installers stamp on it. Its worth doing that as it helps reduce your insurance costs, and helps a little with the resale value of
the car.
They wont sign it if its poorly installed. ie all the wires need to be hidden and best if inside the loom. The control box needs to be well hidden as
well, especially as its an open top car, ie easy to get under the dashboard! Ask their advice before installing it.
