I got fed up with hss drill bits which don't last any time at all, particularly if you want to drill out old bolts or lots of large holes in 6mm
plate.
Spent 55 quid on a quality set of titanium drill bits and what a difference!! I really wish I'd bought them years ago!

Cobalt drills are even better . Just don't let anyone borrow them!

My strategy, is buy reasonable tools. When one breaks or is worn beyond use, then I replace it with a quality item.
Say like, 13 and 17mm spanners get most use and wear quickly. So replace with good ones. The lesser used spanners last longer as they get less use.
Got to admit my Halfords Pro range is damn good value, and is lasting well. only broken one spline / star tool, and the small ratchet, all replaced
without quibble by Halfords.

I do the same, buy reasonable tools to begin with, usually in sets. Then when a single tools break I will replace it with a high quality one as its
likely im going to use it a lot and get a lot of stick. Seems better than spending £100s on Snap On spanner sets when Im only using half of the them
most of the time.
At work we have 3 tool men visit. Snap-on, Mac and a independant bloke. I will always buy from the independant bloke first, usually as he comes to see
me and knows what Im looking for. All his tools are guaranteed too.
Saying this I get drill bits free from work, as they are classed as consumables!
