Would you pay £20 to see a video of a crossflow engine?

Crossflow on ebay with a starting bid of £7,500 If you read the whole description he wants £20 to see a video of it running

Well it's worth a try. If someone's stupid enough to pay good money for a video of someone else's engine that's their problem!!!

TBH if you were serious about spending that much on a second hand engine then £20 to see the video shouldn't bother you. On the other hand if you were that serious you'd go and see it in person.

Seems a bit hopeful to me starting at £7500 when in his own words it cost just under £8000 to have it built. Why not spend the extra few hundred and get a brand new (presumably warrentied) motor to put in what would have to be quite a special car.

Finally, unless you were after keeping a car fitted with the correct engine, then why not spend around half that on a duratec which probably weighs less and would certainly out perform it power wise?

That said, it does sound like a cracking mototor though

I'd love to, as it's the nicest X-flow engine bay that I've seen so far, but I'll have to pass as I'm diabetic.

The Spec of the engine is very good, and Dave Rowe is a great X-Flow builder (I used to have one of his cylinder heads) BUT it's been in a short oval racing car and could be completely shagged, needing a complete rebuild.

In good condition I wouldn't pay more than £3000 for this engine. I think the seller's on a different planet to us Earthlings

Agree, built to £8k spec they also need regular rebuilds, not even worth looking at unless its just had a freshen up with invoices to prove, 189bhp & 9200rpm = lots a stress on the good old crossflow, achievable at a cost but not maintained without cost.

Why would anyone pay 7500 for a used motor when by his own admittance a new one can be built for 8000. Small(ish) engine + Big power + race = WEAR......

well that is the most expenisve xflow yet. 189 + bhp that is really pushing it, no mention of any dyno prints but then how realiable are they?

and as has been said, no mention of number of races, anything tuned up to the limit is gonna need rebuilding often.

think I'll ask some questions..... now wheere is the stirring icon ....

Hi obviously some people on here just do not understand what a very high spec X/flow costs these days. But you wouldent get much change out of £10000.

BTW engine has done 300 miles (race miles )

I don't think anyone is doubting that Matt....
Certainly I don't...it's a big part of what 'we' do .....but with Jags (oldies).

When the post was first put up, the ebay ad stated that it cost the guy just under 8k to have built......the ad 'read' that the engine was used and yet he is starting the auction off at 7.5k. which is more or less what he paid for it to be built!....and wants to charge £20 for the privilige of looking at it working......

Hi So if you have a car that must for homologation reasons run a X/flow. How the hell do you run a zetec in it.

If the engine dose have 300 miles on it then it is just run in so if it is to the spec stated and all is good with it £7500 is a good price. I gues that you would also be suprised that a gearbox to go upto it would cost £1200 also.

BTW it's nothing to do with me .

I've been doing some rough costings re building an all-steel x-flow using a good used block, but new everything else. Comes in at £7000 (including VAT) and then there's the labour charge...

I'd perhaps be willing to go £4000.

Well what else is there to do on a wet Friday afternoon

Hi i am not having a go at any one just pointing out that if you really do want a proper X/flow that's putting out 190-210 bhp then it dose cost just a bit more than £7500. Very few people left who can do the job and get reliability. Hence people like MASS charge £10000 +. A 300 Hp VX costs £15000 And i have a 245 hp Zetec se sat in the workshop that cost god only knows what.

Just pointing out that not all engines are just thrown together with a bit of MEGASQUIRT added with bike carbs stuck on.
