LEDs are the way to go. Once the price comes down that is.
See; www.litebulbs.co.uk
50 watt GU10 halogen replaced with a 4 watt LED at a cost of £24, but reconned to save up to £200 in juice over the life of the lamp (ie 30,000hrs +).
Currently saving up for some .

They're selling the sun??

Bags first dibs on that. You can all pay me and I'll send you some beams in the post.

I'll keep my free suns to light the underneath of the stairs. It's never bright enough in there.

Don't bother yet, tried one in my shop, they throw out nothing like the light of a regular GU10 - my lightbulb supplier recons they are a year to 2 years away from producing a proper 50watt led replacement for halogen, but when they do I'll replace the lot.......
