Mondeo Race Car

Would be a fun trackday car!

Did they ever race them with the V6? I thought it was always with the 2.0l 4 pot.

The ST200 engine was alot later the the Mk1 mondeo anyway.

The Mondeo touring cars used a Mazda sourced 2.0 litre V6 engine that acheived homologation due to it's use by Ford in the Probe, but other than the block not much else remained original.

I can't see e-bay from work. However, I do know of an ex-Menu Mondeo minus engine and gearbox that is available for less than you'd think.

Mondeo touring cars always ran the V6 - never four cylinder.
In the early develpment phase, Andy Rouse actually experimented with RWD (4WD version with the fwd side disabled) as it was allowed in the rules. They eventually went for FWD as the transmission losses with the transverse engine and RWD were too great. Early ones were based on a Mondeo Ghia of all things because that had the best aerodynamics as standard. (This was before BTCC standard aero packages as they have now).

Zil, weren't they the ones Mike Smith and Rob Gravett drove? Seem to recall their lack of success. Cheers, Pewe

The pairing of Smith and Gravett drove RS500s

They were Rouse prepared cars though.

Around 1990 ish IIRC

The Rouse Mondeos didn't have great succes for the time. They moved to WSR after that and had a better time of it. But that was around the time that Willimas and Schnitzer were involved - budgets were collossal.

The WSR cars were Reynard designed and they also produced all the trick Carbon engine / susupension mtgs, uprights etc.

WSR then did the prep and running.

IIRC the driveshafts ran down the centre of the 'V' such was the extent of the lowering and moving back of the engine.

I wish I could forget some of this stuff as I have things I need to remember.
