1.25 Zetech S

Hi all,

My nephew has just pranged his Fiesta ( Again ).

"FUBAR" for sure this time. So it looks as if it will be coming in my direction. If i want it that is.

Do any of the locoster's make use of the 1.25 Zetech engine ?

I dont even know the power output from the 1.25

My other half will kill me if I bring home another useless piece of Junk

Nice runner though

What do you all think

Ronnie

I think it would be quite a nice alternative engine for a locost. They go well in a fiesta, so should fly in a locost. They chuck out 73bhp in stock form.

Funny bolt pattern so you will need an adaptor plate.... but very light compact engine so worth the effort.

The only bolts that line up are the 2 at the top .

You can be creative and get 2 more to bolt through

Lovely looking engine, I've just taken mine back out of my swiss cheese chassis, it's now sitting on a pallet inside a sealed polythene bag for safe keeping

Don't know about the engine construction etc. but isn't 73 bhp a bit on the low side?

Should be comparative to a standard X-flow - only very revvy and very light (all aluminium i think). Certianly not the engine to go for if you want an absolute screamer but more than enough for fun!

Not everyone likes them, see here:

I'd still consider using one but I've started collecting bits to go with the bigger Zetec now.

I built an early westfield (oriinal 7 type) and had a 1300GT engine in it. It was a lot of fun and had plenty of go, not a real screamer but still really good and also slightly better in slippery conditions than my BEC. So it you want a nice driving car that you can have a bit of fun in I would have thought its ideal.

Those were my thoughts for it too, it seems like it would suit the nature & ethos of the car so long as you aint a speedfreak.
The only reason I'm going with the big Zetec is because it goes straight onto a RWD Ford box, I cant swear I wont swap to the smaller lighter alloy engine at a later date.

Thanks

Hi all,

Thanks for the constructive comments.

Quite a few pros and cons for this particular breed of Zetec.

I had'nt realised the se was not of ford origin and was anglo Jap.

I guess it will end up Ebay spares or just go to straight to the scrappy.
