weight saving
I'm looking at ways to save weight on my new () tiger avon ( 2 litre zetec ).
Before we go into the go on a diet jokes I only weigh 10 and a half stone.
The car weighs 520 kg with a full tank (withought me in it)
So far i have a rs2000 alloy bell housing.
I am looking for a smaller battery.
I have the 2litre zetec flywheel and am looking for the 1.8 one.
I have no windscreen or washers wipers heater etc. and the standard tiger radiator (is the polo one lighter)?
Can people make some recomendations to save weight stating the weights of standard and replacement parts. I will document it on my website as and when
i make the changes, showing the weight saving and the difference it makes to acceleration.

i'm using yokohomas. can you tell me the weight of your tyres?
incidently i weighed the 2l flywheel (no clutch or pressure plate) and it came in at 9.8kg

no boot
lighter tyres and alloys
start getting things made in carbon fibre
hi-spec or wilwood superlight calipers

half the oil saves about 2kg
half the water saves about 3Kg
remove 2 studs from each wheel will save you 200 grams
take the battery out will save about 8kg
If you have multispoke alloys you can always cut of some saving of 3-10 Kg
Smaller tank, will save you about 10Kg on fuel
That's about it.

changing the flywheel will mean a smaller clutch.
You can get lighter than the 1.8 by using a cvh flywheel and mounting a trigger wheel on the front pulley.
You can get yours lightened and balanced.
Scholar engines did mine. Pic in my archive.

Try and get the unsprung and then rotating things down in weight first to see the biggest gains.

Littel Red top 20 or 25 should save you a fair bit. Got one on mine with no problems for the last 2 years.

Odyssey PC545 battery (starts a 2L Pinto fine)
Alloy hubs and maybe uprights if you feel really flush
Alloy calipers
13" wheels n tyres
Strip the carpets and trim out. Fit fibreglass seats
Stop eating pies
Smaller alternator (Nippondenso etc)
Polo radiator (the heavy Tiger one has steel tanks and WILL rust and then fail)

I sold 17" wheels+tyres which were 22.5kg each and got 13" wheels+tyres at 11kg each. Ditched my comfy 7.5 kg cobra seats and got skinny
GRP ones at 2.1 kg. I have raceleda uprights to fit and an ally fuel tank, race battery, 80 kg 4age motor and alloy bodied quaife gearbox. It all adds
up - or takes away, if you get my drift.

TBH, I'd say that 520KG for a zetec-engined Avon is pretty damn light anyway! (Don't Tiger quote something like 595kg for a zetec Avon in
their spec. sheet?)
I'd ditch the Tiger rad anyway in favour of the Polo rad (they have been known to leak and are significantly heavier due to steel/copper
construction compared to the aluminium/plastic of the Polo.) The polo rad also sits upright within the nosecone and probably offers more efficient
cooling. (you would have to make suitable brackets in order to fit.)

I recon its so light as i have no screen, heater, washers wipers etc and kept the creature comforts to a minimum.
I recon i can save 10kg just on the battery as i have a large one fitted at the moment.

Thats pretty light!. My race car avon weighs in at 615kg and it has nothing in it!
