Purchasing From North America
Hi all
Have any of you had any experience of purchasing components from America (excluding our American friends of course)
Seeing as though the exchange rate gives you $1.8 for jsut £1 sterling the temptation is high.
I know about buying British etc etc and thats why i havnt bought from overseas, but you have to admit its tempting
Just look at the prices on this site

i see what you mean! the exhaust wrap boils down to about £10!! how about a group purchase if they ship abroad? unless its cheap anyway, then we can
all get seperate stuff...
do they say they will ship anywhere?!

i've imported several parts
summit charge $23 overseas handling before you even start then you have to remember that when it arrives here hmc&e will want vat and import
duty
but saying that i got a bellhousing for a ford v8 imported for $199 + $60 shipping
= £142 + £32 to hmc&e total of £174 as opposed to the £320 real steel wanted for the same item.

I have sent a mail asking about shipping to the uk and i will let you know what they say. I think that there is a $23 for handling overseas orders.
A bulk purchase is a great idea and if enough interest was shown it could be somthing we have a go at.
The only worrying thing is the import tax and whether or not you have to pay any?

like the look of the light weight ali driveshaft in the centre of the homepage. Anyone thought about fitting something similar in the UK?

I've had a complete nightmare with this...... A Lot of US companies will not ship to the UK at all. I even had a company who would not ship to a
US address (our US offices) because payment was coming from the UK !!
They were all totally inflexible about this...

Yup, this can be a problem, people in the US don't think there is a world outside their country.
And you really have to watch the import duty/tax, it can be a killer. Best thing to do is see if they will put a low value on the box. I get parcels
shipped in with $k's of value, with just $80 on the box, and pay around £30 for duty/tax.
they are getting hotter from the US though, cos everyone is buying there.

Not a good idea to advertise this on the web Jasper !
I also import from the US (digital gauges from Nordskog) the duty etc is a killer but it is still generally worth it on some items.
Most reputable companys in the US wont ship without all the relevant details which mean you will pay Vat and duty as well as postage before the
carrier delivers it to you (or at time of receipt).

Renault used them in the Espace didn't they? It may have been a composite shaft but the technology is there
yours, Pete
I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
