I got about 35mpg with 4 up doing about 60-65 on the motorway, if i travel at about 80 ish it does drop to about 25-28 ish (not that i ever drive that fast)

On some b road blasts i reckon i can it down to to about 15-18.

Its not the most economical car in the world but it is fun.

The only bad thing is that the defenders im looking at with the turbo diesel engines do less mpg than the seat

Jesus thats nearly as bad as my M5!

I thought they'd average around 30mpg no matter how you drove them...

Not in my experience - easily dragged down to sub 20 mpg with an active right foot

Now my old Cupra TDI was a different story - granted not as fast off the mark, but once moving easily as rapid. Best of all to get sub 30 mpg you really really had to spank it's bottom.

Note I said nearly!

It was more the cruising mpg that seemed surprisingly low. Crusing at 80 and only getting 25mpg is pretty bad, I get almost that in the M5. I thought you'd get more like 30 to 35 on a cruise in a 1.8T 4 pot.

Don't worry the M5 gets unleashed but it doesn't half drink the juice when you do - but hey if I wanted the last word in economy I wouldn't have bought it!
