Handbrake cable joiner?
Hi everybody,
I'm currently installing my handbrake cable (haynes roadster) I need to shorten the cable, im going to do it at the handbrake end. My question
is does anybody know where i can get a cable joiner to rejoin the cable after I've shortened it ? I have used google etc but have had no
luck.
Many thanks Dan

You could use something like this:
http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?PartnerID=79&ModelID=50883
on them both, and make a small bracket for the two cables to slot into?

Speak to an AA patrol. They have temporary clutch cable repair kits which have loads of bits and pieces you can use.

I used some of these (type cable clamp into Ebay). I've got some spares that you can have. Just send me a U2U and I'll stick some in an
envelope. I'd suggest 2 per join.

I used wire cable clamps from B+Q. Cheap and effective though I've heard rumours that some SVA/IVA people don't like them...

A slightly obvious question here .... Why not just resolder the nipple on the handbrake end of the cable?

Because its a disc setup and it dosent use a nipple. It uses a hook type thing that I would never be able to get hold of.

All you need to rejoin the cable is to drill out a piece of brass bar to the diameter of the cable insert both pieces of cable in and silver solder.
It helps to put a counter sink into the the holes for a nice fillet to form. Job done!

First picture shows the hook on the rear disc setup. Second picture shows how I connected the cable back together after shortening it. Don't
know if the pictures will come out cos I havnt got an effing clue !
Cheers Dan

So what it does is to press the pads on the disc, right?
That won't put pressure on the front pads also?
